V-League 2025-2026 may be interrupted for a long time, giving way to international playgrounds
The 2025–2026 V-League season will start on August 15, 2025 and end on June 18, 2026. In addition, the First Division will take place from September 19, 2025 to June 17, 2026, while the National Cup will start on September 13, 2025, with the final scheduled for June 25, 2026.
Notably, the tournament organizers have proposed two temporary breaks during the season due to the impact of important international tournaments - specifically the 33rd SEA Games and the 2026 AFC U23 Championship Finals.
The long interruption is to create conditions for national teams to concentrate and prepare best for the competition.
Option 1: If only participating in SEA Games 33 (taking place in Thailand from December 3 to 20, 2025), V-League will take a break for 58 days, from after the make-up match of round 8 until before round 9 returns.
Option 2: In case U23 Vietnam wins the right to participate in the AFC U23 Championship (held in Saudi Arabia from January 7 to 25, 2026), the tournament will be suspended for a total of 84 days (not including the make-up time for round 10 of the V-League and round of 16 of the National Cup).
This long interruption is to create conditions for the Vietnam U23 team to prepare for important tournaments of the year, in which the SEA Games is still the playground where Vietnamese football has high expectations for the goal of winning a gold medal.
VPF and VFF affirmed that they will strive to harmonize the interests of the clubs and national tasks, avoid too much impact on the competition pace of the season, and at the same time create a development foundation for a generation of young players with great potential.
