To increase resistance and prevent diseases for children in the summer, parents should vaccinate their children against Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) bacteria, and against diseases related to pneumococcus and meningococcus.
MSc. Nguyen Hien Minh examines and consults on vaccinations for children
In Vietnam, influenza occurs all year round. Therefore, parents should vaccinate their children against influenza when they are 6 months old. Children from 9 months to 1 year old need to be vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox. When children are about 4 - 6 years old, it is important to pay attention to the schedule for booster shots of these vaccines. Children can also be vaccinated against Japanese encephalitis when they are 9 months old. Vaccines related to bacteria that cause meningitis are now available in Vietnam and cover a variety of bacterial strains.
Dr. Nguyen Hien Minh also noted: For dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease, there is currently no vaccine in Vietnam. Therefore, parents need to monitor their children's health and take them to see a doctor promptly when symptoms of the disease appear.
In addition, parents need to guide their children to practice personal health care methods such as washing hands regularly, wearing masks when going to crowded places, informing parents when the body shows abnormal signs, avoiding contact with sick people... This is also an effective way to help children avoid attacks by viruses and bacteria in the environment. Most importantly, parents need to take their children for regular health check-ups.
Currently, parents can have their children vaccinated at the Vaccination Unit of University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City. The unit provides a full range of vaccines for both children and adults. A pediatrician or internal medicine specialist will examine the child before vaccination.
