On the afternoon of October 29, during the socio -economic discussion session at the National Assembly, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung explained and discussed the preservation and promotion of cultural heritages of ethnic communities; the relationship between tourism and culture; and the development of cultural industries...
Culture is the endogenous strength, the regulating system for sustainable development.
Minister Nguyen Van Hung said that in 2025 as well as the entire term, the cultural sector has received great attention from the Party and State and the people have supported it, creating changes in both awareness and action, especially in institutions and implementation.
Tourism has become a bright spot in the economic picture, and sports have left their mark on the international arena. The press has become a communication channel and a bridge between the Party, the State and the people.
Under the direct leadership of the Party, culture is the endogenous strength, the regulatory system for sustainable development, closely linked with economic development.
This is also in line with Vietnam's proposal for the "Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development" initiative at the World Conference on Cultural Policy and Sustainable Development (MONDIACULT 2025) organized by UNESCO and the Spanish Government.
"If approved, this will be a milestone demonstrating Vietnam's proactive role and substantial contribution to the development of human civilization, affirming that Vietnam's approach is consistent with global trends," Minister Nguyen Van Hung emphasized.
Culture drives tourism development
The Minister said that the delegates' opinion on developing tourism based on cultural resources is completely correct. Culture creates the driving force for tourism development, that is why tourism is one of the 12 sectors of the cultural industry.
Currently, Vietnam has five main tourism products including: Ecotourism, heritage tourism, community tourism, cultural tourism and medical resort tourism. These products have been widely deployed in many localities, associated with the rearrangement of administrative units according to the two-level government model, thereby expanding the development space, creating in-depth tourism products with regional characteristics.
The Minister gave an example of the connection between the forests and seas of Gia Lai and Binh Dinh, which will create a product line with depth and uniqueness, professional services, simple procedures, competitive prices; a bright, green, clean, beautiful environment and a safe, civilized destination.
Or like Hanoi's creative way of effectively exploiting Hoa Lo relic site, turning established and honored relics and heritages into assets to educate about patriotism and national pride.
Three main pillars of cultural industry development
Regarding the cultural industry, Minister Nguyen Van Hung said that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration to adjust, supplement and re-issue a new strategy after summarizing the Strategy for the development of Vietnam's cultural industries to 2020, with a vision to 2030.
"We must choose advantageous fields to "take shortcuts and get ahead" such as performing arts, cinema, cultural tourism and design - fields that clearly demonstrate the talent and creative identity of Vietnamese people. From there, we identify three pillars: Creators, Enterprises, and the State. In which, creators are the center, enterprises are the place to realize ideas into products, and the State plays the role of creating institutions and policies," said Minister Nguyen Van Hung.
The Government has proposed that the National Assembly review and develop the Law on Cultural Industry, aiming to create a synchronous legal corridor, encouraging the development of this sector as a dynamic economic component, making a practical contribution to the national GDP.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is also drafting a Resolution of the Politburo on "Revival and development of Vietnamese culture in the new era". When issued, this Resolution, together with other pillar resolutions, will promote sustainable development of the country, affirming the role of culture as a foundation, an endogenous resource, a national soft power - towards the goal of "getting rich through culture, developing the economy based on culture".
