At 2:00 a.m. on October 30, the water level on the Thu Bon River in Hoi An reached 3.38m (only 0.02m lower than the historic flood in 1964), and the Vu Gia River in Ai Nghia reached 10.22m (about 0.55m lower than the historic flood in 2009).
And during the night of the terrible flood, people living in the downstream areas of the two major rivers in Da Nang experienced extremely tense moments.

From the evening of October 29 to the early morning of October 30, social networks were flooded with desperate messages of distress from people. The image of a man standing on the roof of his house, despite the heavy rain, raising both hands to beg for help was shared by many groups on Facebook, making the online community feel heartbroken. Accordingly, this man lives on Phan Thuc Duyen Street - behind Vinh Dien Market - a low-lying area that has been submerged in water since the evening of October 28. At the time he called for help to bring his pregnant wife to a safer place, the Vu Gia River began to rise rapidly and was likely to submerge the small house.
At the same time, when the flood on Thu Bon river rose rapidly, in Triem Dong 1 block, Dien Ban ward, many households were trapped and they chose to break the corrugated iron roof to escape.

The rapid rise in water overnight left many households in the downstream areas of two major rivers in Da Nang unprepared. At 3 a.m. on October 30, when the water level inundating the house showed signs of "freezing", Mr. Cao Ny (resident of Dien Ban ward) began to regain his composure after hours of struggling with the flood. "My house is located in a low-lying area, close to the Thu Bon River, so water started to flood the house from the night of the 28th. The water level in the house remained at 1 meter until the evening of the 29th. Within just 2 hours, the water level exceeded 2 meters, causing the whole family to panic," said Mr. Ny, adding that the flood rose so quickly that many items in the house such as refrigerators, tables and chairs, etc., were submerged in water, even though the family had tried to raise them higher.

After a sleepless night due to the flood, Mr. Trinh Le (39 years old, resident of Dien Ban Dong ward) exclaimed: "Too terrible". Because, since his birth, this man has only experienced a "life-changing" flood like this. "I moved here to live for almost ten years and my house has never been flooded. But this flood was so fierce. During the 28th and 29th, many households in the block were flooded, but the water only reached the front yard of my house. Unexpectedly, on the night of the 29th, the water rushed up to the steps and in no time the floor was flooded. Many items in the house were not cleaned in time so they were soaked with water, and were considered a total loss" - Mr. Le said.
Also during the night of heavy rain and floods, many people with relatives in the flooded areas also had a sleepless night. At 1am this morning, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Nga - resident of block 2A (Dien Ban Dong ward) hurriedly drove to her parents' house in Binh Ninh block.
According to Ms. Nga, the area where she lives is not flooded, but not far away, her parents' house has been surrounded by water for the past 2 days. "Hearing the forecast that the flood could exceed the historical mark, I called my parents but could not connect. Too worried, I hurriedly drove home to check the situation, but the road leading to the house was deeply flooded, unable to move. I was born and raised in this land, but this is the first time I have witnessed such a big flood. I just hope my parents can safely get through the flood, and the lost property can be rebuilt" - Ms. Nga confided.
