Handling overload and pollution at An Tuc landfill

An Tuc landfill is overloaded.

According to the people's feedback, in recent days, due to heavy rain, An Tuc landfill has many areas with stagnant water; in many places, the garbage is piled up over 6m high. The garbage overflows onto the road, causing water to flow and stink. This landfill is located near residential areas, schools..., affecting the lives and activities of the people.

Chairman of the People’s Committee of O Lam Commune, Phan Thanh Luong, said the landfill has existed for more than 20 years. Previously, the People’s Committee of Tri Ton District (old) approved the investment policy for the project “Expanding the An Tuc Commune landfill” to solve the problem of wastewater pollution in the environment.

The current landfill covers an area of nearly 2.8 hectares; it is planned to reclaim land and expand it to nearly 4 hectares. The new landfill will be equipped with a domestic solid waste incinerator using non-energy recovery technology, with a processing capacity of 50 tons/day.

The total investment of the project is over 7.5 billion VND, the project implementation period is from 2025 - 2027. Currently, the Project Management Board of Construction Investment in Region 4 has only carried out the step of completing the procedures for land recovery.

Leaders of O Lam commune surveyed and found solutions to handle the overload situation at the landfill.

The People's Committee of O Lam commune has sent a document to the Provincial People's Committee requesting early investment in expansion. In addition, the local government has worked with the Tri Ton Urban Environment Enterprise to clean up the area of garbage encroaching on the roadside, and to reduce the stench and environmental pollution.
