Less than two weeks to go until the Lunar New Year holiday of At Ty 2025. The situation of Tet flight tickets is getting hotter every day even though domestic airlines are continuously adding more planes and increasing supply capacity.

According to VietNamNet reporters on the morning of January 11, on the first day of the holiday (January 25, the 26th day of the Lunar New Year), flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang , Hue, Nha Trang, Thanh Hoa, Pleiku, and Vinh were all sold out of economy class tickets, and even some days business class tickets were sold out.

Specifically, the most stressful flights are still from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh (Nghe An), Thanh Hoa, Pleiku. According to a survey on Vietjet Air's ticketing system, these flights are sold out from January 23-25 (Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh), and from January 25-27 (Ho Chi Minh City - Thanh Hoa).

Meanwhile, at Vietnam Airlines, flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa were also sold out from January 24-26.

For the Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh route, direct flights are sold out, so passengers can only choose to fly via Hanoi, which takes 4-5 hours to get to Nghe An. Ticket prices are also very expensive, from 11.6 million VND or more (economy and premium economy) and up to nearly 13.4 million VND (business class).

In particular, the Ho Chi Minh City-Pleiku flight on Vietnam Airlines is also sold out. Passengers who want to buy tickets to go home for Tet must accept a round trip via Hanoi, which takes at least 6-7 hours, and up to 9-10 hours to travel. Some flights require passengers to fly late at night from 11pm the day before and land at 9am the next morning. Normally, a direct flight on this route only takes 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Had to fly in circles and waste time waiting, the ticket price was also sky high, from 12.67-14.4 million VND (including taxes and fees).

As for the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi route, tickets are also sold out faster than a week ago. On January 25, Vietjet Air only has late flights from 10 p.m., with the cheapest price starting at VND3.66 million/route. Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines only has business class tickets, priced from VND9.8 million and up.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (Ministry of Transport) assessed that although many more flights have been added, many routes from Ho Chi Minh City to other localities are quickly running out of flights during the days leading up to Tet and in the opposite direction during the period after Tet.

According to the latest update, many routes continue to have a 100% booking rate, such as from Hanoi to Buon Ma Thuot; from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue/Pleiku/Tuy Hoa/Quy Nhon/Buon Ma Thuot/Quang Binh/Thanh Hoa/Vinh/Chu Lai/Quy Nhon/Nha Trang.

For main routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang/Hanoi, Hanoi - Da Nang/Ho Chi Minh City, the booking rate during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday (January 25 - February 2, from December 26 to the 5th day of Tet) also increased very quickly, especially on the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi/Da Nang route, some days near Tet had a high rate of over 90%.

On some flights to tourist destinations, such as Hanoi - Quy Nhon and Hanoi - Phu Quoc, all economy class tickets were sold out on the first day of the Tet holiday due to high demand, while the prices are not cheap, from 7 million VND or more if flying to Quy Nhon and over 8 million VND/ticket if flying to Phu Quoc.

The situation of air tickets is also tense with flights to Ho Chi Minh City. At the end of the holiday, on February 2, ticket prices from the Northern and Central provinces to Ho Chi Minh City increased sharply, many flights were sold out of economy class tickets such as routes from Buon Ma Thuot, Hue, Nha Trang, Thanh Hoa, Pleiku, Dong Hoi, Vinh, Chu Lai,...

It is noted that many flights have to fly at different times to pick up passengers with empty seats, and ticket prices have plummeted. Therefore, airlines have implemented preferential fare policies to optimize operating efficiency.

Specifically, on January 22, January 25 and January 27, ticket prices from provinces such as Buon Ma Thuot, Hue, Thanh Hoa, Pleiku, Dong Hoi, Chu Lai,... to Ho Chi Minh City are very cheap, such as Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air from only 90,000 VND; Vietjet Air offers 0 VND promotional tickets for routes from Hai Phong, Vinh, Hanoi; Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines: offer tickets from 25,000 VND on routes from Da Nang, Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.

For flights such as Hanoi - Da Nang, Hanoi - Quy Nhon, Hanoi - Phu Quoc, the price for both outbound and return flights is relatively stable, ranging from 1-3 million VND.

As of January 10, compared to the previous week, domestic airlines added 522 flights, equivalent to 133,000 seats on domestic routes, focusing on crowded routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Ban Me Thuot with 26 more flights, Quy Nhon with 37 more flights, Thanh Hoa with 32 more flights and Chu Lai with 34 more flights...

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is working with airlines to research and implement additional flights on routes with high booking rates, over 90%; at the same time, continue to operate night flights, based on the capacity of the airlines.

If Tet flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi and the Central provinces are increasing rapidly and selling out quickly, there are still many tourist flights from Hanoi to Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Da Lat,... before and after Tet, and the ticket prices are also reasonable.
