Immediately after the 0-3 loss to the Indonesian team, on the evening of March 26, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and coach Philippe Troussier had a meeting to discuss the working process as head coach of the Vietnam team and the U23 team, thereby reaching an agreement to terminate the contract from March 26, 2024.
According to official information from VFF, coach Philippe Troussier thanked the players, clubs, VFF and fans for their support and active encouragement. He also apologized to Vietnamese fans because the team's performance did not meet expectations.
VFF acknowledges the efforts and contributions of Mr. Philippe Troussier in the recent past, when he always worked with a high sense of responsibility and professionalism in his work.
Along with that, VFF apologizes to domestic football fans because the achievements of the Vietnamese team in the past have not met the set goals, and hopes that fans will continue to place their trust and support in Vietnamese football in general and the national football teams in particular.
After 1 year of leading the Vietnamese team, Coach Troussier has the highest failure rate in history, only counting foreign strategists. After 13 matches, Mr. Troussier's team won 4 and lost 9.
On the FIFA rankings, Vietnam also dropped out of the top 100. After two consecutive losses to Indonesia, the Vietnamese team was deducted a total of 30.04 points, dropping to 115th in the world .
At the press conference after the 0-3 loss to Indonesia, coach Philippe Troussier said: "Conceding an early goal made the game difficult for us. The whole team still tried to find a way to get back into the game. In football, we have to accept that reality."
When asked about not using Quang Hai in the two matches against Indonesia, Mr. Troussier said: "The team has 25 players, 10 of whom were not selected. I have my own tactics and use substitutions."
