Soft hearted when confiding in "girlfriend"
On June 25, Quang Ngai Provincial Police said that the unit had just received a complaint from Mr. NQT (in Quang Ngai City) reporting that he was scammed after accessing the online dating application of a Telegram account named "Phuong Ngoc".
According to Mr. T.'s statement to the police, after exchanging messages, the account owner sent a link to continue confiding. Following the instructions, Mr. T. joined the "online dating" platform as a member and opened a VIP card, deposited money to accumulate points, and then received interest. However, after a while, Mr. T. fell into the "trap", losing more than 700 million VND.
"At first, the woman I just met online promised to refund the money as promised. At the last step, this woman used the excuse of an error in the operation so she did not refund the money and continued to instruct me to deposit money to get the money back. In just a few days, I made nearly ten money transfers and had hundreds of millions of dong stolen in total," Mr. T. explained.
Many people are cheated out of money when participating in online dating apps.
Mr. NQP (in Duc Pho Town, Quang Ngai) was also introduced to access an online dating site. Here, the scammers also used similar methods and tricks to trick Mr. T. into making a membership card to deposit money, accumulate points, receive interest payments and had nearly 4 billion VND appropriated.
Mr. P. recounted: "After making friends with a girl and talking often, she turned to the topic of finance, encouraging me to participate in attractive investments. If I agreed to spend money, the interest would be refunded immediately to increase trust. When I spent money to invest, my property was taken. At that time, I knew I had been scammed and could not get my money back."
Tricks that trap many people
According to Quang Ngai Provincial Police, the scammers' trick is to find gullible "prey" on online dating apps, turn the conversation to financial topics, and encourage victims to participate in attractive investments... This trick is no longer new. However, many people still fall into the trap because they have never received warning information about this trick.
There are many dating apps on social networks created by scammers to steal money from gullible people. These virtual "girls" use excuses such as "upgrading VIP packages", "refunding support funds", inviting investors to invest in stocks, virtual currencies... even giving instructions on investing in buying and selling sex online. All information provided is fabricated with the aim of draining the victims' money.
According to the recommendation of Quang Ngai Provincial Police, people should not listen to any solicitation on social networks and transfer money to anyone, for any reason. With online dating applications, it is necessary to be vigilant because this is a type of depravity, luring on cyberspace and the ultimate goal is still fraud and property appropriation.
