In the country, with medical training, AI is effectively applied at a number of domestic universities; students and practicing doctors are trained to use and examine results from AI software that supports image diagnosis (e.g., detecting cancer, lung lesions on CT/X-ray) to improve reading ability and clinical decision-making.
With the clinical system, AI provides suggestions for personalized treatment regimens or risk warnings based on medical records, acting as a learning tool for young doctors... Statistics show that a large proportion of medical students (70% of students at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy) expressed interest and are using AI in their studies and research.
Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang emphasized the ethical requirements in AI applications. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for ethics and management of AI in healthcare, it is necessary to ensure the main ethical principles when using AI for healthcare, which are: protecting human autonomy; promoting human health and safety as well as public interest; AI technology designers must meet regulatory requirements on safety, accuracy and effectiveness for clearly defined use cases or indications; ensuring transparency, explainability and understandability; promoting responsibility and accountability; ensuring inclusiveness and fairness...
Affirming that AI is not just technology, it is also a vision of a more humane, precise and fair medicine, Professor Le Ngoc Thanh, Principal of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi , said that Vietnam needs to seize this opportunity to become a regional center for research and application of AI in medicine. The University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Linh Dam campus of the school applies information technology, AI, and robots in medical examination and treatment, especially in the specialties of cardiovascular, spine, neurology, and musculoskeletal system, aiming at a smart hospital model.
According to the Ministry of Health, a smart hospital is a hospital that applies information technology from level 6: using electronic medical records, not using paper medical records; electronic payment; telemedicine; using AI in medical examination and treatment.
