Not only a traditional dish, today's banh ba trang also has a new, more high-class appearance.
Every year on the occasion of the Duanwu Festival (the 5th day of the 5th lunar month), many families in the Chinese community in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City make a typical dish that cannot be missed: banh ba trang. Not only preserving the traditional culture of the Chinese, banh ba trang also brings a unique innovation with Cantonese flavors and a rather elaborate Hong Kong-style wrapping method with many ingredients in Ho Chi Minh City.

On the occasion of the Duanwu Festival, Ba Trang cakes are often given as gifts to relatives and sold.
Regarding the meaning of this cake, a ba trang cake maker in District 5, Mr. Le Huu Phat, shared: ba trang cake, like banh ú, is an indispensable dish on the Chinese Duanwu Festival. Eating banh ú on this day is to commemorate a god named Khuat Nguyen in ancient China and has become a custom that people still preserve today.
Basically, banh ba trang and banh ú are the same, but banh ba trang usually refers to cakes of the Fujian people.
For the past 6 years, every year Mr. Phat has wrapped nearly 1,000 "Bach Trang" cakes to give away and sell to anyone in need from the beginning of the 4th lunar month to the 4th and 5th lunar day on the occasion of the Doan Ngo festival.
The most "delicacy" cake includes high-quality ingredients such as scallops, abalone, sea cucumber, and fish maw.
Ba Trang cakes not only preserve traditional features but also bring new and attractive flavor experiences.
