On the afternoon of July 22, the Vietnam Tourism Association announced that the Vietnamese chef team participating in the 2025 International Pastry and Bread Competition (Battle of The Pastry & Bakery) had successfully surpassed more than 400 contestants from many countries and territories to win a total of 16 Gold medals, 5 Silver medals and 11 Bronze medals.
In particular, the Vietnamese team also won two major trophies, including the Team Championship Cup - the most prestigious award of the competition and the "Best Chef of the competition" trophy.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh, Vice President of Vietnam Tourism Association, President of Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association said that the 2025 Battle of The Pastry & Bakery, held from July 18 to 20 in the coastal city of Penang, Malaysia, under the auspices of the World Chefs Association (Worldchefs).
This is not only a baking skills competition but also a playground to demonstrate comprehensiveness in technique, aesthetics, culinary sense as well as professional competition organization ability.
The teams participating in the competition must demonstrate a delicate combination of technique and emotion through many types of cakes such as wedding cakes, ice cakes, bread art and chocolate sculptures. Each competition is likened to a "culinary symphony," requiring sophistication, creativity and a high sense of aesthetics.
The Vietnamese delegation participated in the contest with 15 contestants from many localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Vinh Long and Da Nang.
The team is led by Chef Le Thi Kieu Oanh (also known as Kieu Oanh-Cherry), with professional support from experts Doi Thi Ngoc Diep, Tran Nhat Truong and Dang Duoc Thao.
The team demonstrated perseverance, determination and outstanding courage throughout the three days of competition.
Not only competing in terms of technique, the Vietnamese team also impressed the judges with their creativity and team spirit. The wedding cakes were full of artistry and sophistication, the sugar and chocolate works were like living sculptures, and the bread art entries achieved a high level of sophistication, completely convincing the judges.
That is proof of the capacity and outstanding development of Vietnamese chefs in the international arena.
Among the team members, chef Duong Minh Tri stood out with his impressive achievements when he won 3 individual Gold medals and was also awarded the “Best Chef of the Competition” trophy - a rare title, showing the maximum recognition from the Organizing Committee for his skills and professionalism in every smallest detail.
Immediately after the competition ended, Head Judge - Chef Kenny Kong from Singapore sent an official letter to the Vietnam Tourism Association to congratulate the delegation.
In the letter, he wrote: “I have witnessed the persistent efforts, outstanding creativity and great team spirit of the Vietnamese team. Under the professional guidance of Chef Kieu Oanh-Cherry, they have demonstrated exquisite skills, from wedding cakes to sugar art works./.
