Six Vietnamese universities appear in CWUR's Global 2,000 rankings, including Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hanoi Medical University and Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
Upgrading is a common trend among schools when compared to the 2024 rankings. However, Hanoi Medical University has a slight decline. This year, Hanoi Medical University is ranked 1,879, down 22 places compared to 2024. Specifically as follows:

This year's Global 2000 rankings also witnessed fierce competition between the world's two superpowers, the US and China, in the field of highereducation .
This year, for the first time, China surpassed the US in the number of universities appearing in the Global 2000 global university rankings.
According to the 2025 Global University Rankings recently released by CWUR, China accounted for 17% of the total number of higher education institutions appearing on the list, up from 324 to 346 compared to last year. Meanwhile, the number of US universities appearing on the list decreased from 329 to 319.
Notably, 98% of Chinese universities improved their rankings compared to last year. According to Chinese media, this achievement was achieved thanks to increasingly improved research performance and steady government investment in higher education.
Tsinghua University (China) rose six places in the rankings compared to last year, reaching 37th place. The school stands out for its research capacity and the ability of its students to find jobs after graduation, although its teaching quality score has slightly decreased.
Peking University (China) rose three places to 44th, while Chinese Academy of Sciences University rose to 46th, above Shanghai Jiao Tong University (61st) and Zhejiang University (68th).

In addition to the five schools mentioned above, the top 10 Chinese universities with the highest rankings on CWUR's rankings also include Fudan University (73rd), Sun Yat-sen University (95th), University of Science and Technology of China (96th), Huazhong University of Science and Technology (98th), and Nanjing University (129th).
Mr. Nadim Mahassen - President of CWUR - commented: "China has a clear presence among the countries with the world's leading universities. With strong investment from the Government, China will become more and more competitive in the rapidly changing global academic environment."
Chinese media is also quite interested in the rankings of top US universities. China Daily (China) commented that although the US has 8 out of 10 universities at the top of the rankings just announced by CWUR, the schools outside the top 10 are showing a tendency to decline in rankings.
Specifically, only 40 American universities improved their rankings compared to last year, 15 remained the same, while 264 higher education institutions dropped in rankings compared to last year. The CWUR representative also commented that this is a worrying sign for American higher education.
Mr. Mahassen said the decline is partly due to cuts in federal funding for education, as well as cuts in funding for universities.
In addition, internal fluctuations within schools around the issue of academic freedom and independent, autonomous operation also have an impact on the level of dedication to the quality of teaching and research.
A typical example is the freeze on funding and ban on international student recruitment for Harvard University (USA), which shows the challenges that the US higher education system is facing.
In fact, the drop in rankings is not limited to American universities. 91% of the 107 ranked Japanese universities also fell in the rankings. However, the University of Tokyo (Japan) is still the highest ranked Asian university (13th).
In addition, 75% of UK universities have also seen their rankings decline. This also applies to ranked universities in France and Germany.
CWUR said this year's rankings assessed a total of 21,462 universities in 94 countries and territories, based on 74 million pieces of data related to teaching quality, graduate employability, governance and research capacity.
The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) is based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This center specializes in publishing global university rankings based on the quality of education and training of students, the reputation of the faculty as well as the quality of scientific research of the school.
Unlike many other rankings, CWUR does not collect data through surveys or from universities themselves. Instead, it relies heavily on outcomes criteria that are publicly available.
The assessment of teaching and professional research quality will be based on the number of research articles published by the school's faculty and students in leading academic journals. This data is collected by Clarivate Analytics - a prestigious academic data analysis organization in the world.
