FPT operates with the prefix 0775 and becomes the fifth virtual mobile network in Vietnam.
In an announcement on the morning of January 11, FPT Digital Retail Joint Stock Company (FPT Retail) said the network will operate nationwide from today, six months after being licensed.
FPT network operates according to the mobile virtual network (MVNO) model, meaning the network operator does not own the infrastructure, but provides telecommunications services by purchasing traffic from available units, then retailing it to users. In FPT's case, the network operator uses infrastructure from MobiFone .

MVNO is a model that has appeared in Vietnam for many years, allowing for quick service deployment thanks to existing infrastructure, thereby saving resources. Network operators often focus on designing products suitable for user groups. Most virtual mobile networks belong to a large company, with a product ecosystem related to end users.
According to FPT Retail representative, the network deployment helps the unit take advantage of and promote existing advantages. The company currently has a system of more than 800 FPT Shop stores in 63 provinces and cities, selling over 1.5 million smartphones and IoT devices each year. In addition, with the advantage of being in the FPT ecosystem, this mobile service can apply advanced technologies such as cloud, chatbot, AI.
"We will integrate services, utilities, and content in the FPT ecosystem and partners so that customers can conveniently use and effectively exploit the selected packages," said Mr. Hoang Trung Kien, General Director of FPT Retail.
FPT's new mobile network is expected to target young, modern customers who love new technology. In addition, there are also business customers, households and users of IoT and M2M services.
In addition to FPT, the Vietnamese market has four virtual mobile network operators operating, including iTel (prefix 087) and Wintel (prefix 055), Local (prefix 089), VNSKY (077).
According to statistics from the Department of Telecommunications - Ministry of Information and Communications as of early 2023, virtual mobile networks in Vietnam attracted 2.56 million subscribers, accounting for 2.1% of total mobile subscribers. In addition, the market has 5 telecommunications enterprises owning infrastructure and frequencies including VinaPhone, Viettel, MobiFone, Vietnammobile, Gtel.
Despite its potential, MVNO operations currently face some limitations, especially in SIM card registration and preventing spam SIM cards. The online SIM card registration trial has been suspended since October last year, forcing users to go to stores to register directly. However, not all carriers have a store system available to meet this demand.
