Deputy Prime Minister, could you please tell us Vietnam's view on the US's reciprocal tariff policy?
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung: First of all, Vietnam considers the United States an important economic and trade partner. Vietnam has boosted exports and increased investment in US priority sectors. The United States is also a major investor in Vietnam.
The new tariff policy introduced by the United States will impact exports, attract investment, including both new and existing investment flows in Vietnam and affect a number of other specific sectors.
However, Vietnam also determined that this is the time, the opportunity; the pressure is also the motivation for us to restructure the economy more quickly, restructure to be more self-reliant, expand value chains and market space. Along with that, we will also further promote the domestic market.
Currently, Vietnam has conducted negotiations with the United States with relatively positive results. We are trying to conclude negotiations as soon as possible with the best results. We hope that investors will trust Vietnam's policies and feel secure in investing.
We protect the legitimate rights and interests of international investors in Vietnam, while requiring participating businesses to comply with the law and Vietnam's trade regulations.
Recently , Vietnam has emphasized a new era in national development. Could the Deputy Prime Minister share so that we can better understand the orientation in Vietnam's new era?
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung: First of all, we identify this as an era focusing on growth and development to build a strong and prosperous country, striving for the goal of a rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization.
We have set development goals until 2030 - the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam - Vietnam is a developing country with modern industry and high average income. By 2045, we strive to become a developed country with high income - a goal that Vietnam is determined to achieve and we strive every day to move towards that goal. To achieve this, in the current context and actual development situation of Vietnam, there needs to be strategic changes in vision, approach and methods that are more fundamental, more breakthrough, along with more drastic actions.
We have built orientations based on economic foundations, with special attention paid to developing the private economic sector. The private economy has been identified as the most important driving force of the economy, which needs to be unleashed, liberated and its potential for development exploited to the fullest.
Next is to focus on perfecting the institutional system. Currently, we are shifting from a management mindset to one of serving and promoting development, from a pre-inspection model to a post-inspection model, facilitating regulations for people and businesses. Accordingly, it is necessary to reform administrative procedures. In addition, deep international integration is needed to support the development of domestic internal resources. These are areas of policy making that are extremely important, strategic, and topical.
Vietnam is determined and believes that with our efforts, we will soon achieve the set goals, which are based on the country's reality and development aspirations. We have been realizing that aspiration despite many difficulties.
Deputy Prime Minister, please tell us about the development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam?
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung: Vietnam has identified the semiconductor industry as an important strategic economic, technological and manufacturing sector, a key solution for development.
From there, we have built a comprehensive development strategy for the semiconductor industry, focusing on institutional improvement to promote the effective development of the industry. We have also built specific preferential and support policies for semiconductor enterprises to attract investment. Along with that, we invest in technical infrastructure to serve the industry, promote training of high-quality human resources and develop specialized support services.
Reality shows that the ecosystem of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam has been gradually taking shape. In the international market, we have attracted many large investors and currently many other investors are expressing their interest and desire to choose Vietnam as a destination to establish production facilities. Vietnam is aiming to soon become a major center in the global semiconductor industry and an important and effective "link" in the value chain./.
