President Vo Van Thuong proposed that Vietnam host APEC 2027 and received support from leaders of member economies .
The proposal to host APEC 2027 activities was made by President Vo Van Thuong while attending the 30th Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting in San Francisco on November 17. This demonstrates Vietnam's desire to contribute to APEC's development process.
According to the President, APEC is the leading forum for cooperation and connectivity in the region, bringing practical benefits to the people. He cited lessons learned from APEC's success, including the openness and goodwill of all parties to understand and overcome differences, find common ground and promote common interests. Along with that, the vision and strategic thinking of generations of leaders, as well as the support of businesses and people, have positioned the role of Asia- Pacific correctly.
APEC leaders highly appreciated and strongly supported this proposal of Vietnam, and agreed to include it in the Joint Statement of the conference, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
Previously, Vietnam successfully hosted the APEC summit in Hanoi in 2006 and Da Nang in 2017.

Also at the conference, President Vo Van Thuong said that APEC needs to maintain and consolidate important achievements in liberalization and trade and investment facilitation in Asia-Pacific and globally. Member economies also need to take advantage of development opportunities in areas such as infrastructure, human resource development, digital transformation, and green transformation to promote growth momentum, and enhance capacity, autonomy, and creativity.
"More than ever, APEC members need to be open, sincere, and engage in constructive dialogue to increase understanding, narrow differences, and create consensus," the President said.
Leaders shared their assessments of the world economic situation, challenges and opportunities facing the Asia-Pacific region.
On trade, investment and connectivity, leaders committed to promoting a free, open, transparent and inclusive trade and investment environment, maintaining open markets and addressing supply chain disruptions. APEC continues to support the rules-based multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core.
The conference adopted major principles on just energy transition and food security in APEC cooperation. Leaders unanimously adopted the Golden Gate Declaration "Creating a sustainable and resilient future for all people".
APEC member leaders will meet again at the 2024 Summit in Peru and South Korea in 2025.
APEC is currently the leading economic cooperation and linkage mechanism in Asia - Pacific, accounting for 38% of the population, 62% of GDP and nearly 50% of world trade.
Over the past 25 years, Vietnam has been one of the most active members in proposing cooperation initiatives and projects, with nearly 150 projects in various fields from human resource development, e-commerce promotion, food security, and climate change response. These initiatives and projects promote APEC cooperation in line with the interests and concerns of members, and Vietnam's socio-economic development.
