During his official visit to South Korea, on May 31, at the government complex building, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son met with South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.
According to VNA correspondent in Seoul, at the meeting, the Korean Prime Minister congratulated Vietnam on completing its new leadership; welcomed Minister Bui Thanh Son's official visit to Korea; and believed that the visit would be an important foundation to further promote the development of the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo expressed his good feelings for Vietnam and congratulated Vietnam on its important achievements in economic and social development, and its increasing role and position in the region.
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo affirmed that the Korean Government always attaches importance to its relations with Vietnam and considers Vietnam a key partner in implementing foreign policy in the region.
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo agreed with Minister Bui Thanh Son's opinion that the two sides need to further promote cooperation in the coming time, maintain regular high-level exchanges and contacts; effectively implement existing cooperation and dialogue mechanisms; promote substantive economic cooperation; strengthen cooperation in culture, education, tourism, labor, and people-to-people exchange; continue to maintain coordination at multilateral forums, and strengthen coordination on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Minister Bui Thanh Son congratulated the achievements that Korea has made, thereby contributing to making Korea a developed country; believed that the Korean Government and people will continue to achieve even greater achievements in the coming time; and affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to closely coordinate with the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the functional agencies of the two countries to promote the development of the two countries' relations more strongly, substantially and comprehensively in the spirit of the agreement of the two countries' senior leaders, focusing on the effective implementation of the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Regarding regional and international issues, Minister Bui Thanh Son thanked Korea for actively cooperating with Vietnam to successfully fulfill its role as the coordinator of ASEAN-Korea relations for the 2021-2024 period; hoped that Korea would continue to support, assist and share experiences to help Vietnam successfully organize the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in Vietnam in 2025; asked Korea to continue supporting the stance of Vietnam and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the East Sea issue; affirmed that Vietnam always pays attention to, supports and is ready to participate in contributing to the process of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
On the same day, at the headquarters of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held talks with Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol.
Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the positive developments in the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; substantive cooperation in various fields has been continuously expanded and deepened; and affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of wanting to promote substantive, comprehensive and long-term development of the cooperative relationship between the two countries.
Minister Cho Tae-yeol assessed that Minister Bui Thanh Son's official visit to Korea is of great significance in promoting the substantial development of the Korea-Vietnam relationship in the coming time; said that the two countries have become each other's leading economic partners, Vietnam is one of the biggest destinations for Koreans; emphasized that Korea always considers Vietnam a key partner in implementing policies in the region, including the Indo-Pacific Strategy and the ASEAN-Korea Solidarity Initiative, the two countries' upgrading to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is an important step forward based on the achievements in the bilateral relationship and the high level of trust between the two countries.
At the talks, the two ministers reviewed the implementation of the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed by the two governments in June 2023; and discussed practical measures to promote the development of bilateral relations in the coming time.
Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the two sides continue to increase the exchange of delegations and high-level contacts between the two countries; promote more effectively the existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms in diplomacy, defense and security; further open the door for Vietnamese goods with strengths to enter the Korean market, support Korean enterprises to participate more deeply in the global supply chain of Korean enterprises, contributing to increasing bilateral trade turnover to 100 billion USD by 2025; continue to improve the quality and expand investment in Vietnam, especially in the fields of semiconductors, digital transformation, green transformation, renewable energy, high technology; propose that Korea continue to consider providing large loans and preferential conditions for Vietnam's key infrastructure projects and projects responding to climate change; continue to deepen cooperation in labor, tourism, education and people-to-people exchange between the two countries; Korea increases the number of scholarships for Vietnamese students to study abroad, and at the same time supports training high-tech human resources for Vietnam.
Minister Cho Tae-yeol expressed his agreement with Minister Bui Thanh Son's opinions; affirmed that he will closely cooperate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to play a good role in coordinating the Vietnam-Korea relationship, including jointly reviewing and promoting the effective implementation of the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; requested that Vietnam continue to pay attention and create a favorable environment for Korean enterprises to invest in Vietnam; strengthen cooperation in the supply chain of essential minerals and cooperation in developing LNG power plants and hydrogen production between enterprises of the two countries.
On this occasion, the two ministers also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern. Minister Cho Tae-yeol thanked and appreciated Vietnam for its active role as the coordinator of ASEAN-Korea relations for the 2021-2024 term.
The two ministers highly appreciated the importance of the East Sea to peace, security and stability in the region, and agreed to continue supporting the settlement of disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) signed in 1982.
