Vietnam organizes series of events on sea, islands and environmental protection

On the afternoon of May 28, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment held a press conference to launch a series of events for Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2025, in response to World Oceans Day (June 8), World Environment Day (June 5) and the Month of Action for the Environment. This is the opening activity for nationwide programs that will take place throughout June 2025.

The national launching ceremony for the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week will take place on the evening of June 6 at Ho Chi Minh Square, Dong Hoi City (Quang Binh) with the theme “Green technology for sustainable oceans”. On the same day, many seminars will be held, focusing on the institution for marine economic development, offshore wind power, application of artificial intelligence in environmental communication and exhibition of local marine economic products.

Previously, on the morning of June 1, a national rally in response to World Environment Day will take place at October 30 Square, Ha Long City (Quang Ninh), organized by the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper.

At the press conference, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands Nguyen Hong Hai said that the main series of activities will take place on June 6 in Quang Binh province. In the morning, there will be a workshop on "Institutions, planning - opportunities for developing a blue marine economy"; in the afternoon, there will be a workshop on "Application of AI in journalism, communication, marine environmental culture and marine tourism development"; in the evening, there will be a national rally with the participation of government leaders and international representatives.

Concluding the press conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Minh Ngan expressed his thanks to the press, media agencies and delegates who have always accompanied and spread the efforts to protect the environment, seas and islands of the country and the industry in recent times.

In 2025, Vietnam Sea and Islands Week is a call to promote the application of green technology and digital transformation, associated with the strategic vision of sustainable marine economic development - where Vietnam's sovereignty, resources, ecosystems and marine cultural heritage reside.

Through seminars, community activities, and innovation initiatives, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment expects that blue ocean economic models will spread widely, not only domestically but also internationally. The proactive and creative participation of organizations, businesses, communities, and individuals is the driving force to realize a healthy, safe, resilient, and sustainably developed ocean.

Along with that, the series of activities responding to World Environment Day (June 5) and the Month of Action for the Environment in 2025 continue to be a strong reminder of the dangers of plastic waste, warning about the plastic waste disaster, especially in the oceans, rivers, coastal areas and urban life.

At the press conference, Deputy Minister Le Minh Ngan called on ministries, sectors, localities, businesses and people, press and media agencies, and social organizations to proactively and actively act for the environment in all socio-economic development plans; pioneer in innovating production models, developing environmentally friendly materials to replace plastic; accompany in education and communication work to change behavior, promote green lifestyles and sustainable consumption.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment believes that, with the leadership of the Party, the synchronous participation of the entire political system, and the strong spread of the media and press, the topics "Green technology for a sustainable ocean" and "Fighting plastic pollution" will not only be a call, but will become concrete actions, spreading from the coast to the highlands, from urban to rural areas.
