The visit aims to continue promoting the Strategic Partnership to be more in-depth, substantive and effective in the new development context of each country, the region and the world . The focus of the trip is to promote cooperation in the fields of research, policy advice, institutional improvement, innovation, local governance and administrative reform, digital transformation, green transformation and sustainable development.
Strengthen cooperation in sharing knowledge and experience in development and management
During the visit, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang had meetings, received and worked with many leaders, officials and leading experts in economics , finance and technology of the UK.
At the meeting with Seema Malhotra, Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the UK, Nguyen Xuan Thang informed about Vietnam's development situation, especially strategic decisions on establishing a growth model, reorganizing the apparatus and building a streamlined, efficient, effective and efficient two-level local government; developing science and technology, digital transformation, green and sustainable. He emphasized Vietnam's desire to share the UK's experience and strengths in these areas, including the construction and operation of the International Financial Center. Ms. Seema Malhotra affirmed the deep friendship between the two countries and expressed her willingness to support Vietnam in implementing strategic decisions. The two sides pledged to cooperate for peace, friendship and common prosperity, and together solve international issues.
During the meeting and exchange with Mr. Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the British House of Commons in a solemn, friendly and cordial atmosphere, the Speaker congratulated the great achievements that Vietnam has achieved over the past 80 years, highly appreciated the spirit and indomitable will of the Vietnamese people in the struggle for independence and national development. The Speaker of the House of Commons emphasized the role, position and importance of Vietnam in the Asia-Pacific region and in the foreign policy of the United Kingdom, especially after leaving the European Union (Brexit). Mr. Lindsay Hoyle expressed his wish that the two countries would soon upgrade their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, in order to meet the interests and aspirations of the people and businesses of both sides.
In his exchange with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang sent the regards of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to the President. He sincerely thanked the President and the UK for their sincere feelings and support for Vietnam, both in history and in the current development strategies and policies, to turn Vietnam into a prosperous and wealthy country. Agreeing with the Speaker of the House of Representatives' assessments, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang highly appreciated the sincere and substantive relationship between Vietnam and the UK and the two countries need to continue to promote and upgrade the relationship, for the peace and prosperity of each country, contributing to common peace and prosperity.
At the meeting with the Chair of the British Civil Service Commission, Baroness Stuart, the two sides exchanged experiences in building and operating a professional, modern and developed civil service, in training, fostering, using and evaluating civil servants, as well as the organizational and operational model of the UK's two-tier government, especially in the context of the explosion of digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI).
Sharing experiences in innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, and equitable energy transition
During the visit, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang had a working session with Mr. Mark Kent, Chairman of the Vietnam - UK Friendship Network, former British Ambassador to Vietnam. The two sides discussed important issues such as building an international financial center in Vietnam, green transition, energy transition, and strengthening economic, trade, investment and people-to-people relations.
In particular, the visit also included in-depth working sessions with leading British economic, financial and technological experts from Oxford University, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and leading independent financial and policy consulting organizations in London. Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang discussed the consistent viewpoints and policies of the Party and State of Vietnam in perfecting breakthrough and development institutions, including the organization and operation of the International Financial Center based on international experience, especially the model of the UK - a center with a long tradition, operating effectively and attracting the world's leading financial corporations and investors. British experts shared valuable experiences in developing science, technology, and innovation.
Strengthening connections between businesses and people of the two countries
In addition to the official activities, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang also attended as an honored guest and delivered a speech at the 80th Anniversary of Vietnam National Day in the UK. The ceremony was attended by over 200 delegates including British politicians, embassies and business representatives from both sides, creating a warm atmosphere and demonstrating the connection between the two countries.
During the visit, he also had other meaningful activities such as: laying flowers at Karl Marx's tomb in London, meeting with the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in the UK and visiting the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK.
The visit of Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang affirmed the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation between Vietnam and the UK. Activities during the visit not only strengthened political and diplomatic relations but also opened up practical cooperation opportunities in key areas, contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam in the new era.
On the morning of September 18, the delegation ended its visit and work in London and continued its program as planned in Ireland and Scotland.
