Continuing the epic in the new era

Exactly 50 years ago, the Great Victory Day marked another brilliant milestone in the glorious history of building and defending the country of our people, bringing our country into a new era - the era of independence, unification, building a socialist Vietnam with a rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness, and civilization.

Under the wise and talented leadership of our Party and President Ho Chi Minh , after successfully ending the resistance war against French colonialism, our entire nation entered a new long march.

The truth “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom” and the iron will “Even if we have to burn down the Truong Son mountain range, we must resolutely gain independence” became the torch that guided the Vietnamese people during 20 years of resistance against the invading American imperialists. The resistance war, full of hardship and sacrifice, was a heroic and tragic epic of the nation written by generations of heroic Vietnamese people.

With the determination to protect national independence and unify the Fatherland, our people united under the Party's flag, overcame all difficulties, went from victory to victory, the peak of which was the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, ending with the glorious victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign. The South was completely liberated! The country was completely unified! North and South were reunited as one!

The moment the liberation flag flew over the roof of the Independence Palace at noon on April 30, 1975 will forever be a heroic memory of the Vietnamese people, affirming what Uncle Ho said years ago: Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one. Rivers may dry up, mountains may erode, but that truth will never change.

The victory of the resistance war against the US to save the country was the victory of our people's ardent patriotism and burning desire for peace, independence, freedom and national unification. It was also the victory of Vietnam 's military line and art under the correct, talented and creative leadership of our Party.

In particular, the victory of the resistance war was also the crystallization of the combined strength of the great national unity bloc, from the great rear in the North - including the capital Hanoi - to the great front line in the South with the absolute loyalty and the brave spirit, determination to fight and win of the people's armed forces. And this was also the victory of the friendship and the great and effective support and assistance of international friends and the alliance fighting side by side against the common enemy of the people of the three countries of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

The political report at the 4th National Congress of the Party (December 1976) affirmed: “Years will pass, but the victory of our people in the resistance war against the US to save the country will forever be recorded in our national history as one of the most brilliant pages, a shining symbol of the complete victory of revolutionary heroism and human intelligence, and will enter world history as a great feat of the 20th century, an event of great international importance and profound epochal significance.”

The country is united as one, the whole country is moving forward to build socialism amid countless difficulties and challenges. Under the leadership of the Party and the efforts of the entire people and army, our country has gradually overcome difficulties, focused on overcoming the severe consequences of war, broken the blockade and embargo to build the country more and more dignified and beautiful.

The spirit of national independence and unity has once again been strongly promoted in the comprehensive national renovation process over the past nearly 40 years. Our country has overcome all difficulties and achieved great and historic achievements.

From a poor, backward, war-torn country, Vietnam has now become a developing country with average income, deeply integrated into world politics and the global economy, taking on many important international responsibilities, and playing an active role in many international organizations and important multilateral forums. National defense and security have been strengthened; independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity have been maintained; national and ethnic interests have been ensured. The scale of the economy in 2024 has reached over 470 billion USD, ranking 32nd in the world. The material and spiritual life of the people has been constantly improved. The work of building a streamlined, strong, efficient, effective and efficient Party and political system has been promoted; the great national unity bloc has been consolidated and strengthened.

The proud achievements of the past 50 years are extremely valuable assets for the entire Vietnamese people to confidently continue writing the heroic epic in the new era - the era of national growth.

In the new era, all Vietnamese people vow to join hands and unite to maintain the country's borders and implement strategic and historic decisions led by our Party: Reorganizing and streamlining the apparatus of the political system; organizing Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress - the congress marking the entry into an era of prosperity; achieving the economic growth target of 8% or more in 2025 and double-digit growth in the following years... towards the highest goal of building an independent and free Vietnam, becoming a developed country and the people having a prosperous and happy life.

In this great historical moment of the Vietnamese nation, we are moved to remember the great contributions of beloved Uncle Ho, outstanding senior leaders, heroic martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers, and families with revolutionary contributions who devoted their youth and sacrificed their blood and bones for the independence, freedom and unification of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people.

Promoting the immortal spirit of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 - a shining symbol of the complete victory of revolutionary heroism - under the wise and talented leadership of the Party, our entire army and people are determined to strive to successfully carry out the goals and tasks of building and defending the Fatherland in the new era of the nation, in accordance with the words of General Secretary To Lam on the occasion of the great national holiday: "We are inheriting the great heritage values ​​from our ancestors, and we have the responsibility to make the country famous in the new era".

The epic written in the new era will bring our country to glory!
