VinFast has just announced that it will start construction on an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in North Carolina on July 28. This will be the first electric vehicle manufacturing facility in North Carolina, contributing to the supply of electric vehicles for the North American market, promoting the global green transportation revolution.
The VinFast factory will be built at the Triangle Innovation Point industrial park in Chatham County, North Carolina. The project covers an area of approximately 733 hectares with an expected capacity of 150,000 vehicles/year in phase 1. The factory will include two main areas: electric vehicle manufacturing and assembly, and an auxiliary industrial park for suppliers.
The project has now received basic permits to begin construction of phase 1. Once operational, the VinFast factory will contribute to creating a green manufacturing supply chain ecosystem as well as thousands of local jobs.
“The electric vehicle manufacturing plant in North Carolina is one of VinFast’s key projects,” said Ms. Le Thi Thu Thuy, Chairwoman of VinFast. “Once operational, the plant will be VinFast’s main source of supply for the North American market, helping us optimize production and business operations. We also hope that the construction of the plant in Chatham County will contribute to promoting the green energy economy and the transportation electrification strategy of the state, and more broadly, the United States.”
The factory is expected to begin production in 2025. Previously, VinFast also announced that it had received $1.2 billion in incentives for the factory construction project, including financial and infrastructure support from the North Carolina state government, the city of Sanford, Chatham county, and the Golden Leaf Fund.
In addition to building a factory in North Carolina, VinFast is also promoting its business and brand awareness by expanding its store and service workshop system, organizing test drive events and product displays in the US, bringing direct experience opportunities to consumers.
