Vingroup proposes to extend metro from Can Gio to Ben Thanh station, Ho Chi Minh City supports

On October 29, the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee announced the conclusion of Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc at the meeting to resolve the petition of Vingroup Corporation, including the urban railway project connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City - Can Gio.

According to the proposal of VinSpeed ​​High-Speed ​​Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company under Vingroup, this investor wants to extend the metro line connecting Can Gio to the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Ben Thanh station - connecting directly at Ben Thanh station of Line 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien, instead of stopping at Tan Thuan (old District 7).

The adjustment of the route to Ben Thanh station aims to improve operational efficiency, increase service coverage, and connectivity between residential areas, commercial centers, and the city's administrative economic center. In addition, it increases connectivity with the city's metro network, contributing to the formation of a synchronous and convenient public transport network for people.

Concluding the investor's proposal for this project, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc supported the proposal to adjust the starting point of the line from Tan Thuan station to Ben Thanh station.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested VinSpeed ​​to continue researching the route to ensure feasibility, optimize exploitation capacity, increase connectivity and serve socio-economic development according to the urban space development orientation of Ho Chi Minh City, and maximize investment efficiency.

At the same time, coordinate with relevant departments and branches to update additional route directions to the urban railway planning.

The conclusion also requires VinSpeed ​​to urgently complete and submit to the Council the application for approval of the investment policy and investor approval for the urban railway project connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City - Can Gio.

Request the Chairman of the Appraisal Council - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance to urgently organize the appraisal of the application for approval of the investment policy, and at the same time approve the investor according to the law, and submit it to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration and decision.

The deadline for completing this directive is October 31.

In VinSpeed's previous proposal to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance, the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Gio railway line has its starting point in Tan Thuan and its ending point in Can Gio commune.

However, according to this unit, during the research process, it was found that placing the starting point of the route in Tan Thuan ward would lead to some difficulties and would not ensure connectivity with the city's urban railway network.

The investor proposed to adjust the route starting from the area in front of Ben Thanh market, connecting with the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line. If calculated in a straight line, this metro line will be extended by nearly 5 km compared to the old plan.

According to the investor, adjusting the starting point of the route to Ben Thanh will help connect the railway to Can Gio with metro line 1 and other routes, forming a synchronous network, convenient for transit passengers and increasing investment efficiency.

Once approved, the enterprise will coordinate to adjust and complete the dossier for the city to review and approve the investment policy.

The proposed plan for the Ben Thanh to Tan Thuan section is to go underground to reduce compensation and clearance costs. The section from Tan Thuan to Can Gio will continue to be implemented according to the previously proposed plan.

According to the old plan, the metro line connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio is about 48.5 km long, running on an elevated route, with the starting point located in Tan Thuan ward and the end point connecting to the Can Gio coastal urban area.

On this route, there are 2 stations: Tan Thuan and Can Gio, with a depot located on a 39-hectare land area near the Can Gio urban area.

The project is designed as a double track, with a maximum speed of 350 km/h.
