Vinh Long puts into use modern cancer radiotherapy system

Vinh Long General Hospital inaugurated and put into operation a modern cancer radiotherapy system using a linear accelerator.

On October 31, Vinh Long General Hospital solemnly held the inauguration ceremony and put into operation a modern cancer radiotherapy system using a linear accelerator, marking an important turning point in improving the capacity of cancer treatment at the provincial level, contributing to bringing specialized medical services closer to the people of the Mekong Delta.

Specialist Doctor 2 Nguyen Thanh Truyen, Director of Vinh Long General Hospital, said that the inauguration and putting into use of the linear accelerator radiotherapy system for cancer treatment is an important milestone in the roadmap for developing specialized techniques and modernizing the hospital's medical examination and treatment, in order to meet the increasing health care needs of people in and outside the province.

This is also a great step forward in the field of cancer treatment in Vinh Long province, creating conditions for people in the area to enjoy advanced, high-tech medical services without having to go to higher levels, helping to reduce the burden of treatment costs.

Specialist Doctor Nguyen Thanh Truyen added that the combination of linear accelerator with modern imaging diagnostic systems such as CT simulation and MRI helps increase accuracy in tumor location, maximize healthy tissue protection and improve clinical treatment effectiveness.

Along with modern equipment, the staff of the Oncology Department and related departments of Vinh Long General Hospital have been intensively trained at central hospitals, ready to operate the system according to national standards, ensuring the highest safety and efficiency for patients.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang, Director of the Department of Health of Vinh Long province, affirmed that with the modern accelerator system, the new radiotherapy area at Vinh Long General Hospital will deploy advanced techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, IGRT - helping to treat accurately, reduce side effects and improve the quality of life for cancer patients.
