Over the past two decades since its establishment, Hoang Lien National Park has continuously researched and applied advanced science and technology in breeding, contributing to the conservation of many rare plant species and creating sustainable livelihoods for local people.

A place to revive precious genetic resources
Entering the scientific research room of Hoang Lien National Park, especially the tissue culture propagation area, we feel a professional and meticulous working space. This is the silent "rear" where scientists and engineers have been trying to "revive" and propagate endangered plant species.
Tissue culture technique - the pinnacle of plant biotechnology - has been effectively applied at Hoang Lien National Park. This method allows for the rapid multiplication of large numbers of disease-free, genetically identical seedlings from a very small part of the mother plant.
Ms. Le Thi Mui - specialist of the Department of Scientific Research and International Cooperation shared: The most important thing in tissue culture is to ensure absolute hygiene and cleanliness, ensuring that no bacteria or mold can penetrate the culture environment. If infected, the entire batch of seedlings will be destroyed, and the research effort will be considered a failure.

The success with the Kim Tuyen orchid is just one of many encouraging results.
Over the years, Hoang Lien National Park has chaired and participated in many scientific research projects from the State to the provincial level.
The application of modern science and technology has helped the Garden successfully propagate many other rare plant species, opening the door to gene conservation and sustainable economic development.
The biggest challenge in Sa Pa is the harsh weather conditions. The cold winters almost stop the growth of the trees. Therefore, tissue culture and propagation work is mainly carried out in more favorable conditions, lasting from spring to summer.
Economic development goes hand in hand with conservation
The application of science and technology to the propagation of rare plant species has brought about double results. Hoang Lien National Park not only fulfills its mission of preserving precious genetic resources but also creates high-quality seedlings, providing them to local people, helping them develop their economy and increase their income sustainably.

In recent times, Hoang Lien National Park has carried out many practical technology transfer and seedling activities.
Typical examples include handing over 60,000 Hong Hoang orchid seedlings to 200 households and providing hundreds of Hoang Dan and Green Cypress seedlings to ranger stations, schools, agencies and units in the core and buffer zone communes of the Park.
These activities have created long-term, stable and sustainable livelihoods for people, helping them become active "forest rangers", instead of exploiting forest resources for a living as before.

Mr. Vu Duc Quyen - Deputy Director of Hoang Lien National Park emphasized the role of science and technology and current difficulties: In recent times, we have applied many new techniques in conservation work, especially tissue culture techniques. However, Hoang Lien National Park still faces many difficulties in terms of facilities; the current investment level is not really commensurate with the position and importance of the Park in the national development strategy and biodiversity conservation.
Through the efforts, endeavors and spirit of constant innovation of the scientific staff, Hoang Lien National Park is gradually affirming its role as a center for conservation and development of rare plant genetic resources.

Believing that, with the achieved results and further investment from all levels, Hoang Lien National Park will continue to apply science and technology to successfully propagate many other rare plant species, contributing to the solid conservation of rare plant genetic resources of the country and the region; continue to create many effective economic models, helping people in the core and buffer zones to have a prosperous and stable life, associated with sustainable forest protection.
