My Hoa Hung model new rural commune

My Hoa Hung islet commune is about 3km from the center of Long Xuyen city, more than 2,100ha wide, with more than 21,000 people. This land is rich in revolutionary tradition and cultural identity, has long been famous for its fruit-laden orchards and green fields. Previously, My Hoa Hung, like many other rural areas in the Mekong Delta, had an economy mainly based on agriculture with traditional, small-scale and fragmented farming methods; people's lives were still difficult, and rural infrastructure was not yet synchronized. With the determination of the Party Committee, the government and the consensus of the people, My Hoa Hung has gradually transformed strongly, especially after implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction. With creative ways of doing things and drastic actions, in 2015, the commune met the standards of a new rural commune; in 2020, it completed 19/19 criteria and was recognized by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee as a commune meeting advanced new rural standards.

“Under the leadership and direction of the Party Committee and the local political system, closely following the 4 requirements of the model new-style rural commune in the field of production organization. In 2024, My Hoa Hung completed 19/19 criteria of a model new-style rural commune. In the process of building a model new-style rural commune, local people contributed more than 11 billion VND, thousands of working days, materials, and efforts to work with the State to implement welfare works - roads, bridges, lighting, solidarity houses, security cameras and develop local models" - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Long Xuyen City Tran Minh Duc shared.

The Party Committee, Government and People of My Hoa Hung Commune received the Decision to recognize the commune as a model new rural commune in the field of production organization.

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Hoang (residing in My An 2 hamlet) shared: “The highlight in the development journey of My Hoa Hung is the innovation in production organization. Instead of spontaneous farming, people gradually participate in cooperative models and cooperative groups; helping farmers connect, share experiences, provide technical support, and access capital and markets more effectively. Thanks to that, people's income, material and spiritual life have improved significantly."

According to Party Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of My Hoa Hung Commune, Duong Anh Dung, My Hoa Hung farmers have boldly innovated their production thinking, shifting from traditional farming methods to applying advanced science and technology. Economic models of cooperation and production linkage according to value chains are encouraged and replicated, creating conditions for farmers to access the market, improve productivity and product quality. The total area of ​​converted crops is nearly 350 hectares. Of which, nearly 288 hectares of ineffective rice land are converted to specialized crops and fruit trees with high economic value, such as: coconut, mango, grapefruit, guava, longan, orange, lemon, pomegranate, grapes... Aquaculture area is over 66/89 hectares. Aquaculture area applying high technology is 50 hectares (including 6.8 hectares of clean fish farming according to Natureland standards, 37.2 hectares of farming according to VietGap and ASC standards); 6 hectares of high-tech seed rearing; 9ha of raw material area for commercial tra fish farming of the enterprise; 36ha of production and consumption linkage of tra fish between farmers and enterprises. “Not only stopping at improving production efficiency, My Hoa Hung also focuses on sustainable agricultural production, friendly to the environment. Building local agricultural product brands, associated with traceability, contributes to increasing product value and affirming the position of local agricultural products in the market” - said Mr. Duong Anh Dung.

“Achieving the model NTM standard in production organization is not a stopping point but a strong source of encouragement, adding strength for My Hoa Hung to firmly step on the path of development. Promoting the advantage of being the hometown of President Ton Duc Thang - a red address, a key cultural - historical destination of the province, in the coming time, the commune needs to invest, upgrade infrastructure items, tourism services, expand cultural living space associated with the Memorial Area of ​​President Ton Duc Thang to develop programs, tourist routes connecting My Hoa Hung islet with the center of Long Xuyen city and tourist destinations in the region.
