(CPV) - On the afternoon of December 9, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) conducted a draw to divide the groups for 24 teams participating in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.
According to the AFC announcement, the Vietnam National Team is ranked in the number 1 seed group in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, along with Syria, Thailand, Tajikistan, Lebanon and India. This is a result that was expected in advance, after the Vietnam National Team moved up 3 places to reach 116th place in the world and 21st place in Asia on the FIFA rankings in November 2024.
Being in the number 1 seed group, the Vietnam team was placed in Group F with 3 opponents: Malaysia, Nepal and Laos. These are considered not too strong opponents and open up a great opportunity for coach Kim Sang Sik and his team to win the right to continue.

Other Southeast Asian representatives are in a difficult group. Thailand will face Turkmenistan, Chinese Taipei, and Sri Lanka. Myanmar will face Afghanistan, Syria, and Pakistan. The Philippines will be in a group with Tajikistan, Maldives, and Timor Leste.
Singapore competes with India, Hong Kong (China), Bangladesh. Brunei does not have much hope in a group with Lebanon, Yemen, Bhutan.
In Southeast Asia, only the Indonesian team won a direct ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup Finals without having to participate in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup thanks to their achievement in entering the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
In the Qualifying Round, teams compete in a round-robin format (home and away) to calculate ranking points. The top 6 teams in 6 groups will qualify for the Final Round, along with 18 teams that have directly qualified for the Final Round (Finals) thanks to their achievements in the Third Qualifying Round of the 2026 World Cup. The 2027 AFC Asian Cup Finals will be held in Saudi Arabia.
In the two most recent Asian Cups (2019 and 2023), the Vietnamese team won tickets to participate. The most notable achievement was reaching the quarterfinals of the 2019 Asian Cup. According to the schedule, in the opening match on March 25, 2025, the Vietnamese team will host Laos at home./.
