In the early morning of November 15, the Croatian team defeated the Faroe Islands 3-1 thanks to goals from Joško Gvardiol (minute 23), Petar Musa (minute 57), Nikola Vlašić (minute 70). With this victory, Croatia has 19 points, 6 points more than the second-placed team, the Czech Republic, officially taking the top spot in Group L.
Croatia became the third European team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. This is the seventh consecutive time Croatia has qualified for the most prestigious tournament on the planet.
In seven appearances at the World Cup, Croatia reached the final in 2018 and finished third in 1998 and 2022.
This is an admirable achievement for Croatia, especially considering the size of the country's population (about 3.8 million people).
Croatia is the 30th team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The 29 teams that have previously qualified include: Canada, Mexico, United States (host); Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan (Asia); Algeria, Cabo Verde, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia (Africa); Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay (South America); New Zealand (Oceania); England and France (Europe).
According to the schedule, the 2026 World Cup will determine 12 more participating teams in November. Then on December 5, FIFA will conduct the group stage draw in the US. The remaining 6 teams participating in the 2026 World Cup will be determined in March 2026.
