As the northernmost province of the country with particularly harsh terrain and weather, Ha Giang has more than 277 km of border with Yunnan province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China), with 442 border markers demarcating the territory of Vietnam - China, including 358 main markers and 84 secondary markers. The border area includes 32 communes and 2 border towns, home to 19 ethnic groups with a population of 25,466 households/132,730 people, of which the Mong ethnic group accounts for over 62%.
Currently, Ha Giang has a pair of Thanh Thuy - Thien Bao international border gates, Xin Man - Do Long bilateral border gates and 11 openings, of which Thanh Thuy is the largest border gate.
Along the more than 277 km border, the footsteps of the soldiers of the Ha Giang Border Guard (BĐBP) continue day and night without rest, following every forest, hill, and village in the border area to grasp the situation in the assigned areas.
To do that, they have well implemented the motto of "3 sticking, 4 together" (sticking to the people, selling to the people, sticking to the area; eating together, living together, working together and speaking the ethnic language together). The border guards' constant side-by-side with the people is a decisive factor in maintaining peace in the highland border areas, improving the lives of the ethnic people in the border areas.

According to Colonel Dao Hong Ha - Political Commissar of the Border Guard of Ha Giang province, we pay great attention to mass mobilization work and consider it a key and core task in implementing tasks at the grassroots level. The Ha Giang Border Guard Command has organized the dissemination of resolutions, directives, plans, and instructions from superiors on mass mobilization and special propaganda work; at the same time, it has developed plans, guided, and directed grassroots units to effectively carry out mass mobilization and mass mobilization work, ensure security and order in border areas, and combat violations of the Border Management and Protection Agreement.
This cadre team is considered the “extended arm” of the Border Guard to the grassroots Party Committees in border areas. Currently, the whole province has 34 cadres who are Border Guard officers who have been promoted to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Party Committees of border communes and towns. 177 cadres and party members at Border Guard Stations participate in activities at 172 village and hamlet Party cells and 346 party members are in charge of helping 1,589 households develop their economy .

Thanks to the good implementation of the motto "3 sticking, 4 together", in 2022, the Ha Giang Border Guard contributed to consolidating 128 Party organizations, training, creating sources and recruiting 112 more Party members. This team also proactively coordinated with local Party committees, authorities and organizations to deploy many measures to implement socio-economic development programs and projects of the Government , Ha Giang province as well as the Border Guard force assigned by the People's Committees at all levels as investors.
Adhering to the motto: "Focusing on the grassroots, staying close to the area, closely coordinating with local authorities", the Provincial Border Guard Command has directed its staff to proactively survey the situation, understand the wishes, thoughts and aspirations of the people to help and support. Coordinate with departments and branches to deploy many meaningful programs, effectively carry out campaigns to mobilize organizations and individuals to contribute funds to support poor households in the border area.
In 2022, the Provincial Border Guard, together with local Party committees and authorities of border communes and towns, participated in the groundbreaking of 168 houses, supported 3.5 tons of cement, 265 kg of ginger seeds and 1,165 working days; sent 285 officers and soldiers to join the locality in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, fires, and evacuating assets and materials for the people. Coordinated with local Party committees, authorities, and twinned agencies and units to organize the program "Border Guard Spring warms the hearts of the villagers"...
At the same time, advise and coordinate with the Party Committee and the authorities of Lung Cu commune to organize propaganda and mobilize people to donate land to build concrete roads to build new rural areas to serve labor, production and border patrol and protection in Lo Lo Chai village/Lung Cu commune/Dong Van district (Lung Cu Border Post area); the propaganda results were 02 sessions/252 listeners, 05 households participated in donating land, building 1.5 km of rural roads...
It can be affirmed that, with the advice of the strengthened Border Guard staff, the working methods, style, sense of responsibility and working manners of the staff, especially key staff at the grassroots level, have had positive changes, towards being close to the people, close to the people and responsible to the people.
Along with that, the quality of operations of the administrative organizations of border communes and towns has also been improved... The material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities in border areas has been gradually improved. The trust and consensus among the people have been raised, helping them feel secure in their attachment and participation in building and protecting the border, contributing to consolidating the solidarity between the army and the people, building an all-people border defense posture associated with the people's security posture and the all-people national defense posture in the border areas increasingly solid; thereby contributing to building a strong all-people national defense and people's security posture, maintaining political stability, social order and safety associated with socio-economic development for a peaceful border./.
