The Noirfotocontest 2024 photography contest with the theme Connecting received more than 3,300 entries, three times more than the previous season.

Ms. Le Thu Trang - representative of the organizing committee, said that the jury including director Phan Gia Nhat Linh, visual artist Pham Tuan Ngoc, Mr. Ha Manh Thang and Ms. Nguyen Dieu Cam selected 30 best works for exhibition.

The exhibition takes place from April 5 to 13, at Toong Coworking Space (No. 2 Thi Sach, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

This is the 6th time the Noirfotocontest black and white art photography exhibition has been held, opening up a special art space, so that the audience can admire and feel the messages and energy from talented photographers and photography lovers.

The organizers explained the theme of the photo contest: " Connection is derived from the ability to manually project images from digital images, which is also special about this exhibition. Connection also represents connection with the community.

We chose black and white photography with the desire to aim for sincere and simple beauty, while at the same time stimulating the imagination of the viewer."

Manually project images from digital files

More than 3,300 entries met the criteria set by the organizers including: message, aesthetics and shooting techniques.

The most popular photos submitted were landscapes, street shots, and beautiful moments that show connection. This year, there were very few studio shots and portraits.

Mr. Ha Manh Thang - representative of the jury, commented that the works were taken with diverse perspectives, demonstrating the interest of young photographers.

"The organizers focus on materials and craftsmanship in the photo printing process, contributing to increasing the value and enhancing the artistry of each photo," added Mr. Ha Manh Thang.

Visual artist Pham Tuan Ngoc emphasized that the highlight of this exhibition is the manual printing/projection method, from choosing materials (photographic paper) to creating (manual printing, gelatin silver printing), creating the value of the work, qualified enough to be placed in museums.

The combination of digital photography and film photography is a connection in art, bringing creative space for photographers. This helps many people understand more about creativity and innovation in the photography industry.

The organizers said that during the exhibition, attendees will decide which top 3 winners will be awarded by voting for their favorite photos.

The winner of the special prize will be awarded a solo exhibition worth VND300 million by the organizers. The remaining two prizes will be awarded a group exhibition worth VND100 million.
