Eliminate prejudices and gender stereotypes in ethnic minority families and communities

This is an opportunity to propagate, educate and mobilize ethnic minorities to change their "ways of thinking and doing", eliminate prejudices, gender stereotypes and harmful cultural practices in families and communities; at the same time, introduce the beauty of traditional culture of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas of the capital.

In her opening speech, Vice President of the Hanoi Women's Union Pham Thi My Hoa said that in the past time, implementing Plan No. 257/KH-UBND dated October 3, 2022 of the City People's Committee on implementing Project 8 of the National Target Program on socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2030, the Hanoi Women's Union, together with departments, branches and the People's Committee, proactively and actively built plans and arranged resources to seriously implement the contents of Project 8, with high determination and appropriate methods.

Project 8 has been implemented in Quoc Oai, Thach That, Quoc Oai, My Duc, and Chuong My districts with 8 core targets and many intervention activities, focusing on: propaganda and mobilization to change "thinking and ways of doing" to eliminate prejudices and gender stereotypes in families and communities; support women in reproductive health care, safe motherhood, and solving urgent problems for women in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; building and replicating models to enhance women's economic empowerment.

Activities to ensure the voice and substantive participation of women and children in socio-economic development activities; social monitoring and criticism; capacity building for female ethnic minority cadres; capacity building for gender mainstreaming for cadres in the political system and village elders/heads, prestigious people in the community; monitoring and evaluating the implementation of gender equality in the National Target Program.

In order for the targets of Project 8 according to the City's plan to be effectively implemented and strive to be completed ahead of schedule, the Vice President of the City Women's Union said that in the coming time, there needs to be active participation and close coordination of the City's departments, branches and sectors - especially the Party Committee, local departments, branches and unions and all the people of ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Hanoi. In particular, innovating the content/form of communication to change thinking and working methods to raise awareness and promote positive actions on gender equality plays an important role.

The contest had the participation of 7 teams representing 7 villages and ethnic minority units of Quoc Oai district with 3 competitions: knowledge competition; situation handling and the "Ethnic cultural beauty" competition, bringing many emotions about the unique cultural values ​​of ethnic minority communities.
