The Vietnamese high-end fruit market is recording prices of up to 600,000 - 800,000 VND/kg for Kensington Pride mangoes imported from Australia. This price is 7-8 times higher than that of mangoes of the same variety grown domestically and significantly higher than high-quality mangoes from Vietnam, which cost from 40,000 - 70,000 VND/kg.
Price difference analysis
A survey of imported fruit stores in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City showed that a box of Kensington Pride mangoes weighing about 7kg, including 9-10 fruits, is sold for more than 3.7 million VND. According to store owners, air freight costs and the continuous cold storage process from Australia to Vietnam are the main reasons for the high retail price.
In the Australian market, the price of this mango variety is only about 4 USD/fruit, equivalent to 6.7-8 USD/kg. However, after adding logistics costs, import tax and preservation costs, the selling price in Vietnam has tripled compared to the original price. This reflects the fact that logistics costs account for a large part of the final price of imported premium fruit.

Compare with mangoes grown in Vietnam
Kensington Pride mangoes have also been tested in the Mekong Delta provinces such as Tien Giang , Dong Thap, and Can Tho. However, the selling price in the domestic market is much lower. The price at the garden only ranges from 15,000-25,000 VND/kg, and at high-end stores it is only about 70,000 VND/kg.
An important factor is the season. The main crop of Australian mangoes grown in Vietnam (March–May) often coincides with the Chinese mango season, causing oversupply and pushing the price at the orchard down to only 6,000–8,000 VND/kg. In contrast, the domestic off-season (October–December) coincides with the main crop in Australia, creating favorable conditions for imports.

Market context and trends
According to the Customs Department, in the first 9 months of the year, Vietnam spent more than 100 million USD to import fruits and vegetables from Australia, an increase of 27% compared to the same period last year. In addition to mangoes, items such as cherries, grapes, tangerines, and oranges from Australia are also popular in the high-end segment.
Kensington Pride is the most popular mango variety in Australia, accounting for more than 40% of the national production. The product is strictly managed from cultivation to packaging, with transparent electronic traceability codes, creating trust for consumers.
The story of imported Australian mangoes shows that consumers are increasingly willing to pay for products of high quality and clear origin. This is also a lesson for the Vietnamese fruit industry in increasing added value, improving the logistics system and building a brand strategy in the international market.
