In recent years, the province's livestock sector has developed significantly in both scale and quality, contributing to creating stable livelihoods and increasing income for people. However, if livestock waste is not properly treated, it will pollute the land, water, and air and cause many dangerous diseases, directly affecting food safety and quality of life.
Faced with this situation, since 2021, the Provincial People's Committee has issued a policy to support the treatment of livestock waste with biological products to minimize environmental pollution. The Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has supported 50% of the cost of purchasing biological products for households raising chickens at 0.05 kg (or liter)/head, applicable to a scale of 500 heads/batch or more; for pigs at 0.1 kg (or liter)/head, applicable to a scale of 10 heads or more.
From 2022 to 2024, the province has supported biological products to treat the livestock environment for about 16.3 million chickens, 270,000 pigs, 1,400 beef cattle and 4,150 dairy cows in localities. In 2025 alone, the center will continue to support biological bedding treatment products for 860,000 chickens and waste treatment for 7,000 pigs in households in the province.
With a closed chicken farming model, Mrs. Tran Thi Duc's family farm in Nghinh Tien village, Nguyet Duc commune (Yen Lac) always maintains more than 3,000 laying hens and is one of the addresses providing safe food for consumers.
Ms. Duc said: "Previously, the stench and livestock waste were always the farm's obsession. Thanks to the support and guidance from the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center on the process of using biological products, I sprinkled the products on the floor of the barn to create beneficial microorganisms, decompose organic matter, and inhibit pathogens. The barn environment has improved significantly, the chickens are healthier, have fewer diseases, and egg productivity has also increased by more than 10%."
According to the provincial Agricultural Extension Center, the use of biological products to treat the livestock environment has reduced the odor of barns, saved water and labor, and ensured disease safety. The economic efficiency of chicken farming increased by 13.04%; pig farming increased by 9.03%; and cow farming increased by 14.26%.
At the same time, farmers save significantly on labor costs and reduce the use of antibiotics due to improved environments. In particular, treated waste can be reused as organic fertilizer, creating a closed cycle of "livestock - crops - land", reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers, contributing to soil improvement, improving production efficiency and realizing the trend of circular agricultural production.
Thanks to effective support policies, many circular economic models have emerged in Minh Quang commune (Tam Dao) and the towns of Tam Hong (Yen Lac), Dao Duc (Binh Xuyen)... In which, the pig farming model of Mr. Nang Van Hiep's family, Bo Ly commune (Tam Dao) is a typical example. His family uses biological bedding to treat livestock waste, creating a source of organic fertilizer for 600 custard apple trees, 80 grapefruit trees and 70 sapodilla trees, forming an effective production cycle.
To continue expanding the livestock waste treatment model using biological products, the agricultural sector will focus on guiding people to use biological products effectively, following the correct procedures and in accordance with actual livestock farming conditions; building production chains through the development of cooperatives and cooperatives.
At the same time, promote the implementation of green credit programs, support interest rates for circular agriculture models; organize training courses, transfer science and technology to improve production capacity, support people to gradually shift from small-scale farming to concentrated production in the direction of biosafety, thereby contributing to disease control, improving product quality and protecting the environment.
