Import and export of goods affirms the driving force of economic growth

Việt NamViệt Nam19/12/2024

Over the years, import and export activities have always been recognized as one of the bright spots in the economic "picture" of Ha Nam province. In the period of 2021-2024, the total export turnover of the whole province is estimated to reach 26 billion USD (2.52 times higher than the period of 2016-2020). In 2024 alone, in the context of many complicated economic fluctuations, the total import and export turnover of the province will still reach over 17.7 billion USD, far exceeding the annual plan target.

Outstanding results

In recent years, production and business activities in general, and the import and export of goods in particular, have continuously faced difficulties and challenges due to the complicated and unpredictable developments in the world situation; inflationary pressure has cooled down but is still high, global aggregate demand has decreased... However, with the attention and support of Party committees, authorities, functional departments and branches, and the efforts of the business community, import and export activities in the province have maintained impressive growth momentum. In 2024, Ha Nam's import and export of goods continues to be a bright spot, recording a positive recovery compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the total export turnover of goods in the province in 2024 is estimated at 9.58 billion USD (110% of the annual plan); total import turnover is estimated at 8.15 million USD (107% of the annual plan).

According to information reflected by businesses in many industries, export activities have made a breakthrough in 2024, especially in the last months of the year with an increase in large-scale orders, meeting production requirements in the first months of the new year 2025. Mr. Le Anh Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Joint Stock Company 199 (Thanh Ha commune, Thanh Liem) said: Operating in the field of manufacturing high-end down jackets for export to the Korean market and European countries, like many other garment enterprises, the unit also faced many difficulties due to a sharp decrease in scale and number of export orders. However, with many efforts in investing in technological innovation, proactively seeking new domestic partners to increase consumption in the domestic market, the company has maintained stable operations, achieving positive growth over the years. In the period of 2022-2024, the company's average revenue reached over 60 billion VND/year. Average income of workers reaches over 11 million VND/person/month.

Casla Joint Stock Company (Chau Son Industrial Park, Phu Ly city) continuously expands its export market over the years.

For the FDI sector, in recent times, businesses have taken full advantage of the market, especially new-generation free trade agreements, to boost the export of goods, especially in the garment, electronics, electric wires, electric cables, etc. Typically, Gentherm Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Dong Van II Industrial Park, Duy Tien), in recent years, has had an average revenue that has always achieved positive growth of about 10%/year. In 2024 alone, Gentherm Vietnam's revenue reached a record level, with an increase of over 20%. To achieve this result, according to Mr. Le Viet Cuong, Director of Gentherm Vietnam Co., Ltd., during its operation, Gentherm has always received the attention and active support of the Provincial People's Committee as well as the functional departments and branches of Ha Nam province, especially in connecting and introducing labor resources, implementing administrative procedures, handling customs procedures... Besides, GenTherm is also very proactive in finding new partners, innovating technology, increasing the application of automation in production stages... In 2024, the enterprise was very successful in approaching and expanding the consumer market to European and American countries...

According to data from the Ha Nam Customs Department, by the end of 2024, nearly 1,400 enterprises carried out import-export procedures at the unit, an increase of 11% compared to 2023. State budget revenue from import-export activities reached the annual plan target (approximately 1,685 billion VND) and increased by over 17% compared to 2023. It is noteworthy that the province's export activities have grown steadily in both domestic enterprises and foreign direct investment enterprises. In particular, many key products with high export turnover are noted as computers, electronic products and components; phones and components; garments; footwear; rubber and plastic products, etc.

The positive impact from the import and export sector has significantly contributed to bringing the industrial production value in 2024 to an estimated over VND 248,253 billion, an increase of 17.53% compared to 2023. The main industrial products achieved high growth rates such as: electrical and electronic equipment increased by approximately 57%; electrical wires of all kinds increased by 33.5%; milk increased by over 14%... In 2024, Ha Nam was one of the two leading provinces in the country in terms of GRDP growth, with a growth rate of 10.93% compared to 2023.

Many support solutions for import-export businesses

Faced with difficulties and challenges, in order to maintain growth in import and export of goods, in recent years, the province has actively directed departments, branches and localities to synchronously and flexibly implement solutions to remove difficulties and obstacles, creating the most favorable conditions for businesses to operate. In particular, the highlight is the organization of trade promotion support activities; support for extending tax and land rent payment time; organize dialogues, listen to difficulties and suggestions of businesses; create conditions for businesses to access loans to invest in machinery and equipment for production. Along with that, promote information and propaganda work to businesses about the market situation, demand for export goods to foreign markets; raise awareness and skills in applying e-commerce for businesses; support and guide export businesses to proactively source input materials and reserve goods, take advantage of opportunities from the Vietnam-European Union Free Trade Agreement, Free Trade Agreement, etc.

Ha Nam Customs Branch focuses on administrative reform and digitalization of the customs sector to attract businesses to carry out import and export procedures at the unit.

To promote import and export activities, in recent times, Ha Nam Customs Branch has implemented many synchronous solutions. The focus is on promoting administrative procedure reform, modernizing the customs management model; enhancing information, propaganda, and guiding enterprises to properly and fully implement legal regulations in the customs field. In addition, the Branch has also established and effectively maintained a consulting and guidance team to grasp and promptly resolve problems arising from enterprises during the customs procedures; proactively research and work with enterprises with large revenue sources and make specific preferential and support commitments to enterprises... Thanks to that, the Branch has increasingly attracted large enterprises to open declarations and carry out procedures at the unit. In 2024, the Branch attracted 110 new enterprises to carry out procedures at the unit. These enterprises contributed about 156 billion VND to the state budget.

Mr. Le Viet Thang, Head of Ha Nam Customs Branch, emphasized: With the characteristics of an inland customs branch without a border gate, if we do not do a good job of reforming administrative procedures and minimizing costs and time for businesses during the procedure, it will be very difficult to attract businesses to register for import and export procedures at the branch. Clearly identifying that, Ha Nam Customs Branch always considers digitalizing the customs sector and strongly applying information technology to all aspects of the industry's professional work as a top priority, ensuring that import and export activities are always smooth, following the correct procedures, fast and accurate. Thanks to that, the branch increasingly creates trust for businesses, eliminating the gap between customs and businesses.

The outstanding results achieved in import and export activities in recent years have affirmed the important growth momentum of the economy, contributing to increasing budget revenue in the area. This is a positive signal in the context of slow recovery of the global economy and trade.
