On the afternoon of March 1, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Italian Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry Francesco Lollobrigida, who is visiting and working in Vietnam. Italy is currently Vietnam 's third largest trading partner in the EU (after Germany and the Netherlands). Vietnam is Italy's largest trading partner in ASEAN, with trade turnover reaching more than 6 billion USD in 2023.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister proposed to continue strengthening cooperation, bringing the relationship between the two countries to a new level. In particular, focusing on cooperation in deep processing of agricultural products, transferring high technology, connecting businesses of the two countries, and developing the agricultural economy . Vietnam is ready to welcome more Italian agricultural products to serve Vietnamese consumers. In particular, the Prime Minister asked the Italian side to urge the EU to soon remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnamese seafood and promote the ratification of the Vietnam - EU Trade and Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

Affirming that Italy wants to become Vietnam 's leading partner in the EU in agriculture, Minister Francesco Lollobrigida said that he will continue to promote cooperation in this field, especially the contents that the Prime Minister has commented on. The EU inspection team may continue to have more positive assessments in the coming time on Vietnam 's anti-IUU fishing measures. On the Italian side, Italy will actively urge relevant EU agencies to remove the yellow card on Vietnamese seafood as soon as possible.

On March 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that, at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife will attend the Special Summit celebrating 50 years of ASEAN-Australia relations and pay official visits to Australia and New Zealand from March 5-11.
The conference, themed "Partnership for the Future", is an opportunity for ASEAN and Australia to review the past 50 years of relations and discuss measures to promote substantive and effective development of relations in line with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework established in 2021. Within the framework of the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend key meetings and have a number of other important foreign affairs activities.
