Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd. said that recently, the joint venture received feedback from customers and dealers about difficulties in the process of registering Yamaha branded two-wheeled motorbikes due to suspected engine numbers showing signs of being closed.
After a comprehensive and thorough investigation and assessment, Yamaha Vietnam decided to recall Yamaha branded two-wheeled motorcycles that may have their engine numbers re-coded.
A total of 159,320 vehicles are subject to recall, including 33 models and versions of the Exciter, FreeGo, Janus, Jupiter, Latte, Lexi, Nozza Grande, NVX, Sirius and PG-1 lines manufactured and assembled by Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd. from October 18, 2021 to November 24, 2024.
Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd. will recall to check and evaluate the surface of the engine number stamping location to determine cases of re-stamping the engine number to have appropriate solutions to ensure consumer rights and compliance with State regulations.
The recall program will be implemented from March 4, 2025 to March 4, 2026. The time to inspect and evaluate the engine number plate surface, perform engine oil changes and minor maintenance is completely free of charge, and is expected to take about 1 hour and 30 minutes per vehicle.
Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd. also proposed a remedy by negotiating with customers to buy back vehicles in cases where the engine number is determined to be locked.
To ensure the legitimate rights and interests of the parties involved, Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd. recommends that owners of Yamaha two-wheeled motorbikes subject to recall bring their vehicles to Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd.'s authorized YFS (Yamaha Factory Service) Dealer or Service Station to have the engine number plate surface inspected and evaluated.

According to Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd., the inspection is necessary to ensure customer rights and prevent the risk that the engine number may be locked, affecting the vehicle registration, license plate issuance, and purchase and sale of the customer's name.
Previously, on January 23, 2025, Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd. also had an official response regarding the refusal of some customers to register Grande motorbikes at Traffic Police Departments in some localities.
The cause of this incident was explained by Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd. as being that during the engine numbering process, some workers at the Company's factory acted spontaneously, skipped the step of destroying the defective engine cover and arbitrarily repaired the defective engine cover.../.
