The Department of Maternal and Child Health, Ministry of Health received information from the press reflecting on a medical incident involving Ms. LTC (born in 1980, residing in Tan Lien commune, Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong city) when she came to give birth at Vinh Bao District General Hospital on March 5, 2025.
The Ministry of Health requests the Hai Phong City Department of Health to inspect and verify the above incident and promptly report to the Ministry of Health (Department of Mothers and Children) before 12:00 on April 15, 2025 to synthesize and report to the Ministry's leaders.
The Hai Phong City Department of Health needs to direct Vinh Bao District General Hospital to hold a professional council meeting in accordance with the provisions of the current Law on Medical Examination and Treatment to evaluate the process of receiving, caring for, and handling the above-mentioned case of pregnant woman C. In case Vinh Bao District General Hospital cannot establish a professional council, the Department of Health will establish a professional council.
Hai Phong City Department of Health shall notify the conclusion of the Professional Council to the pregnant woman's family and the mass media and report the results of the case settlement to the Ministry of Health before May 31, 2025.
Previously, VietNamNet reported that a pregnant woman LTC went to Vinh Bao District General Hospital to give birth. According to her family, the pregnant woman was in a normal state at the time but suddenly died.
Ms. C.’s husband said that his wife’s death showed signs of being related to the responsibility of Vinh Bao General Hospital. However, more than a month after the mother’s death, the family has yet to receive a satisfactory explanation from the hospital and relevant authorities.
Regarding the incident, Ms. Lam Thi Huyen, Director of Vinh Bao General Hospital confirmed that the obstetrician LTC was hospitalized to give birth and then died.
Specifically, Ms. C. checked in to Vinh Bao General Hospital at 6:46 a.m. on March 5. She gave birth for the third time, the fetus was in good condition, vertex position. Here, the mother was examined, had an ultrasound, tests, electrocardiogram...
At 7:25 p.m. the same day, Ms. C. was scheduled to undergo a cesarean section to deliver a baby girl weighing 3.3 kg. During the surgery, the mother was conscious, responsive, and her vital signs were stable. However, immediately after the surgery, she experienced grade III anaphylactic shock, which progressed to grade IV anaphylactic shock.
Doctors at Vinh Bao General Hospital treated according to the Ministry of Health's anaphylaxis protocol, focused on emergency care for Ms. C, and consulted with Kien An Hospital (Hai Phong City) and transferred the patient to a higher level at 10:15 p.m. on March 5. However, the pregnant woman's condition worsened and she had to be transferred to Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital. At 5 a.m. on March 6, the patient died.
