Medical violations: "Strict handling, no forbidden zones, no leniency"

Speaking at the national online conference on assessing the peak period of the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the health sector held on the morning of May 23, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that we have implemented many solutions but in reality, counterfeit goods and trade fraud are still abundant, especially in the fields related to health and e-commerce.

Therefore, the Minister believes that there needs to be a stronger solution to focus on solving this problem. This is not only a problem for Vietnam but also for the world , so we also need to pay attention to the import issue.

According to the Minister, counterfeit goods, commercial fraud, and unknown origin in the field of medicine and functional foods are not just commercial violations but crimes. The use of these items directly affects the health and lives of people.

"In the spirit of the general directive that protecting people's lives and health is paramount, we need to thoroughly implement this content throughout the entire system from central to local levels. Just paying attention to it as usual like other counterfeit goods is not good, we should pay more attention.

How can we get to the bottom of the problem and come up with stronger solutions to make changes in the coming time?", the Minister emphasized.

Don't let "one bad apple spoil the barrel"

In addition, the Minister proposed to rectify the implementation of tasks and public duties related to licensing, extension, receiving declarations, inspection and testing, etc., and seriously learn from this content. Thereby, from the central to local levels, it is necessary to review and rectify which stages still have loopholes and problems.

At the same time, thoroughly grasp and raise awareness among cadres, party members and employees to carry out these tasks to avoid incidents like the one at the Food Safety Department.

"Of course, it's not because one "bad apple" spoils the bunch, but if we don't do it seriously, there will be problems. This is a regular job, with constant warnings and alerts.

If there are any further violations of the law, we propose strict handling according to the provisions of the law, with no forbidden zones or leniency. We are performing duties related to health, the most important of which is the health of the people," the Minister emphasized.

The head of the health sector also admitted that the fight against counterfeit goods and commercial fraud is fraught with difficulties. The health sector alone cannot do it without the participation of ministries, departments and localities.

"This is a matter of coordination, working resolutely, continuously, without rest, not deploying for a month and then resting. Whatever is the responsibility of the department or bureau above, whatever is difficult for the department, there will be solutions and a roadmap to solve immediately, such as human resources issues, strengthening planning, post-audit costs...", said the Minister.

The Minister also hopes that the two Ministries of Industry and Trade and Public Security will soon implement the issue of tracing goods, and the Ministry of Health will connect in the medical field.

At the same time, it is also recommended to handle counterfeit goods in the medical field at the highest level to serve as a deterrent and warning to other businesses and traders.

"The state management agency itself cannot go to all businesses, but one case will serve as a warning if we have strict sanctions," the Minister added.
