On May 8, the Hue Department of Culture and Sports said it had received a document from the Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Library under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism regarding the cannonball "strayed" into the audience area on the evening of May 3.
The Department requested the Hue Department of Culture and Sports to verify relevant information and inspect the organization of the above event.
The Department will work with relevant parties to inspect the implementation of legal regulations on organizing fireworks displays.
In case of detecting violations of the law, the Department requests the Hue Department of Culture and Sports to proactively handle them according to its authority.
The leader of Hue Department of Culture and Sports said that after receiving the document, they conducted inspection steps and will report to relevant levels.
On the night of May 3, an unfortunate technical incident occurred at the Nguyen Dynasty cannon firing simulation performance at the Hue Flag Tower area.
A series of burning fireworks fell on the area where hundreds of spectators were standing at Phu Van Lau, causing panic among many people. Fortunately, no one was injured after the incident.
Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said the technical incident was due to the fact that the organizers of the cannon firing had failed to check the quality of the fireworks. The fireworks were damp, and when fired into the sky, they did not burn completely and fell straight into the area where the audience was standing.
In addition, the organizers failed to calculate the range of falling fireworks, causing the unfortunate incident to occur.
