High-tech crime is on the rise, impersonating government agencies to commit phone fraud is a hot issue that many people are concerned about.
The subjects use many sophisticated tricks such as impersonating judicial agencies or state agencies, causing many losses to the people. Although the authorities have been and are dismantling fraud rings, there are still individuals and organizations who are not vigilant and fall into the trap.
During the 6th session of the 15th National Assembly, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung affirmed that there should be specific solutions to prevent this situation, including identifying calls from state agencies.
Accordingly, the Telecommunications Department has coordinated with telecommunications enterprises to deploy a call identification service for mobile phone numbers of state agencies. Specifically, the name of the agency will be displayed on the phone screen of the call recipient instead of just the phone number. Thus, people can easily identify calls and avoid impersonation calls.
Currently, there are 732 mobile phone numbers of State agencies registered with identification to contact directly with organizations and individuals to serve professional work. When receiving calls from these identification numbers, people will see the name of the State agency displayed on the screen. As for phone numbers with 10 digits (starting with 03,05,07,09) claiming to be State agencies without displaying the identification name, people need to be extremely vigilant, it is very likely that this is a fake call with the purpose of fraud.
The Ministry of Information and Communications is also actively implementing identification for landline phone numbers registered by State agencies. However, it requires technology conversion as well as upgrading equipment and transmission lines, so more time is needed.
The Ministry of Information and Communications also recommends that when receiving a call claiming to be from a government agency, people should carefully check the information and can request a call back to the identified mobile number to ensure accuracy. If people suspect a scam call, they should report it to the authorities for timely handling.
