Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, feel the fresh air and warm sunshine of the mountains and forests, leisurely sip a cup of tea and watch the beautiful scenery of the mountains and forests, all the hustle and bustle out there has nothing to do with you, that is truly a wonderful life. However, due to the pressure of life, most people have to worry about food and money, not daring to delay work for even a moment, for fear of not being able to pay off the mortgage, the car loan, let alone return to the mountains and forests to enjoy life.
However, in Beifengshan Village in Fuzhou, since 2015, some young people have given up high-paying jobs in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and other cities, giving up the convenience of urban life, even the lives of their children, and come here to start a life of seclusion.
Quit a high paying job to enjoy life
After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts, Wenwen started working as a designer in Beijing, often working overtime until after 10pm, her daily life revolved around home and work. Although such a life did not have to worry about food and clothing, it was very stressful, she had to work a lot, could not enjoy life, and sometimes people could not avoid feeling lonely.
At the end of 2020, thinking that he was still very young, Van Van decided to do something he liked, so at the beginning of the following year, he quit his job, cleaned out his rented house, and brought his cat to live with a couple of friends living in the mountains named Loi Ngoc and Quan Sinh.
The house they lived in was a typical residential house in Fuzhou, built a long time ago. Because they didn't have much savings, the landlord allowed them to waive the rent and cover the cost of repairing the house. The house was generally quite spacious, with lots of flowers and grass planted in the yard. Whenever the sun shone through, they would often sit on the sun loungers.
While renovating, Lei Yu and Quan Sheng accidentally discovered on a wall some speckled stones, the larger ones at the bottom and the smaller ones at the top, creating a unique aesthetic. They used this place as a tea room.
Inside there are wooden tables and local style decoration, when tired from work, they come here with friends to slowly drink a cup of tea, feel the warmth of the sun and experience the ancient scenery, looking for a comfortable and leisurely feeling. Some other rooms are also converted into studios, bedrooms... All have unique styles, through the windows you can see the beautiful scenery of the mountains, next to the yard there is also a small garden, all of which they slowly built together.
Every morning, everyone feels the morning sunlight shining through the wooden gaps into the house, then wakes up, showers, drinks tea and everyone starts their lives and work. Van Van has a studio while Loi Ngoc and Quan Sinh open a painting room. Their income is not much, but fortunately the cost of living here is much lower than in the city so they don't have to worry too much. All three enjoy a life in harmony with nature, relaxing their minds, playing with pets and friends, simple but happy.
Simple life in the mountains
One of the friends that Van Van made while living in the mountains was Gia Khai. When he was in the city, Gia Khai made pottery and some other handicrafts, but because of the land relocation problem, he and his family moved their shop to the mountains.
One of the reasons he made this decision was because it was very peaceful in this mountainous area, just closing his eyes and inspiration would flow, without having to worry about anything else. In addition, it could save on raw materials, for example, soil and firewood for pottery making could be collected from the mountains.
Jia Kai's family's backyard is very large, they grow carrots, cucumbers and raise rabbits, his mother is also good at cooking and often entertains Jia Kai's friends. He also occasionally makes pots, pans and other daily necessities as gifts for his friends. Many of the household items that Lei Yu and Wen Wen are using are made by Jia Kai.
Also living on this mountain were Ha Hai and Kiem Ban, a couple who had lived in Hangzhou for a year before moving here. When they first started living on the mountain, Ha Hai felt a bit strange. Although they were close to nature, the wildness of the mountains and forests, and the animals like snakes, squirrels, and wild boars made Ha Hai a bit scared. But gradually, their family got used to it.
A happy life together
Although everyone here has different jobs, they still study and interact with each other regularly, or often stay for dinner or go up the mountain to play together. They are used to this place, find an open space, take out the prepared tea, make a cup, take a sip of tea and feel the peace in the mountains and forests. Occasionally, they will gather together, turn on the lights in the yard, light the firewood in the stove and put in some sweet potatoes wrapped in tin foil, then enjoy the roasted sweet potatoes while chatting.
When talking about the issue of children's lives, Gia Khai said that children need to feel the space to grow up. Ha Hai and his wife are the same, they also want their children to be able to play in the mountains, not only to be in contact with nature, exercise but also to nurture their children's desire to explore .
Living in the mountains is like a "utopian" life. Although they are far from the city, they are not far from society. They still work and produce, still create their own values. They dare to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city to go to the mountains, choose to pursue the life they want and enjoy it.
