On November 23, information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that 50 doctors and nurses working at local hospitals volunteered to go to the flooded areas along with 10,000 family medicine bags to the people of Khanh Hoa province.
Just 2 hours after receiving the assignment, on November 22, 10 doctors from Thong Nhat Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City were present in Khanh Hoa province to examine and treat people in flood-affected areas.
Associate Professor, Doctor, Physician Le Dinh Thanh, Director of Thong Nhat Hospital, said that this is an order from the heart and responsibility of the doctors of Thong Nhat Hospital to their compatriots when facing difficulties, natural disasters, and epidemics.
The working group of Thong Nhat Hospital also brought medicine and essential equipment to care for and serve the people in the best way.
Along with doctors and nurses from Thong Nhat Hospital, 38 doctors from hospitals including People's Hospital 115, Military Hospital 175 , Orthopedic Trauma Hospital, Rehabilitation and Occupational Disease Hospital, An Binh Hospital were also present in Khanh Hoa province, directly participating in medical examination and treatment for people at Khanh Hoa General Hospital and areas heavily affected by floods such as Khanh Vinh commune and Dien Khanh commune.
In addition to mobilizing human resources, many hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have also actively implemented the "Family Medicine Bag" program to support people in the South Central provinces who are facing difficulties.
Each "Family Medicine Bag" includes fever reducers for adults and children, diarrhea medicine, oral rehydration solution (ORS), antiseptics, bandages, gauze, hand sanitizer, soap, some common medications, instructions for safe use of medications, and advice on disease prevention during the rainy season.
The Department of Health has mobilized 10,000 family medicine bags to send to people in Khanh Hoa province. The goal of the Ho Chi Minh City Health Department is to deliver as many medicine bags as possible to people in flood-hit areas, helping them to treat common illnesses, prevent infection and reduce pressure on the overloaded local health system.
Faced with the serious flooding situation that is severely affecting the lives, health and safety of people in the South Central provinces, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has activated response plans and mobilized medical forces for emergency support when requested.
The Department of Health requires leaders of hospitals and affiliated medical units to review the number of doctors, nurses and technicians that can be mobilized immediately upon receiving requests from the Ministry of Health and other provinces.
Units must activate a permanent readiness mode to send mobile medical examination and treatment teams that can move to affected areas to examine, dispense medicine and provide medical advice to people, and support vehicles, environmental treatment chemicals and medical supplies for emergency and treatment.
Previously, Ho Chi Minh City provided Khanh Hoa province with 50 billion VND in emergency aid to overcome damage caused by floods.
In addition, the City also organized kitchens to provide more than 20,000 meals/day; organized relief teams to mobilize 50,000 gift bags of essential food, drinking water, clothes and 10,000 bags of family medicine, 10,000 life jackets, 100 tons of goods; sent 400 volunteers from the Youth Union and Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union to join forces of Khanh Hoa province to repair damaged works, bridges, roads, schools, medical stations, treat polluted water; repair and restore 550 telecommunication stations./.
