10 Vietnam logistics events in 2024

DNVN – The year 2024 marks important steps forward for Vietnam’s logistics industry, from launching large-scale projects, organizing international events to groundbreaking innovations in infrastructure and policies. Notable events not only contribute to enhancing the position of the logistics industry but also open up great opportunities for Vietnam to deeply integrate into the global supply chain.

The Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) has just announced 10 Vietnam logistics events in 2024.

1. Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024 in Ba Ria - Vung Tau

The Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024 took place on December 1-2 in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province with the theme "Free Trade Zone - Breakthrough Solution to Promote Logistics Growth". At the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the strategic role of logistics in modernizing the country, while pointing out limitations such as high logistics costs, slow digital transformation and limited human resources capacity.

With the viewpoint of "creativity to fly high, innovation to reach far, integration to develop" and determining that logistics development is an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a priority for national development, the Prime Minister pointed out 3 goals and 7 tasks for logistics development.

2. Approval of investment policy for North-South railway

The North-South high-speed railway project was approved by the National Assembly on November 30, 2024 with a total length of 1,541 km, connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The route is designed in a modern style, with a maximum speed of 350 km/h, using public investment, applying rail technology, electrification; ensuring modernity, synchronization, safety and efficiency. Accordingly, it opens up opportunities for socio-economic development thanks to more efficient passenger and cargo transportation.

3. Da Nang pilots free trade zone

The National Assembly allows Da Nang to pilot a free trade zone associated with Lien Chieu port, creating a driving force to attract investment and develop high-quality logistics services. Da Nang's pilot establishment of a free trade zone is a major policy, of great significance, a great driving force for the development of Da Nang's economy in particular and the regional economy in general. This will also be the basis for piloting new policy research, as a premise for legalizing regulations on free trade zones, creating conditions for localities with potential and advantages to implement this model.

4. Vietnam to host FIATA Congress 2025

At the 2024 FIATA Congress in Panama, Vietnam officially took over the hosting rights of the 2025 FIATA Congress with the theme “Green and Responsive Logistics”. Scheduled to be held in Hanoi, the event will attract more than 1,000 international delegates, creating an opportunity to connect Vietnamese businesses with the global logistics community.

5. The 2nd Vietnam International Logistics Exhibition

VILOG 2024 exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City with 400 booths from 20 countries introduced many green initiatives, from smart warehouses, cold supply chains to advanced technology applications. Thematic seminars within the exhibition framework continued to promote sustainable logistics development. VILOG 2024 is an opportunity to update the latest trends and innovations in the industry with the participation of developed countries such as the US, Germany, Japan, China, Singapore, Korea, Australia ...

6. Connecting two ports at Cai Mep under the “open port” mechanism

On May 24, 2024, CMIT and Tan Cang – Cai Mep Thi Vai ports will deploy the “open port” model, optimizing the exploitation of seaport infrastructure. The formation of a common wharf will help to lengthen the wharf scale, increase exploitation capacity, improve service quality and enhance the capacity to receive ships of both sides. Thereby, contributing to the goal of developing an international transit port at Cai Mep.

7. “Air Cargo Day” Forum in Hanoi

The forum “Air Cargo Day Vietnam 2024” discussed digital trends and compliance with international standards in air transport. The event emphasized the role of the aviation industry in connecting global supply chains, promoting the application of modern technology. In the context of the aviation industry playing an increasingly important role in connecting global supply chains, the need to optimize the transport process by digitalization and ensure compliance with international standards is urgent.

8. Opening of Viettel Logistics Park

The Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel) officially opened Viettel Logistics Park in Lang Son on December 11, 2024.

Viettel Logistics Park in Lang Son, with a total investment of VND3,300 billion, has become a modern customs clearance center, applying Digital Twin technology and smart management systems. The project doubles the customs clearance capacity at the border gate, creating favorable conditions for Vietnam - China trade. With an optimal operational design, combined with modern technology, Viettel Logistics Park can handle customs clearance of up to 1,500 vehicles/day, contributing to doubling the customs clearance capacity at Lang Son border gate compared to the present.

9. Launching the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Logistics and Seaport Association

The establishment of the Ba Ria – Vung Tau Logistics and Seaport Association affirms the important role of the locality in the Southeast supply chain. After Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Ba Ria – Vung Tau is the fifth locality to have its own logistics association. This is a new step forward after efforts to develop logistics and effectively exploit ports.

10. Pilot green logistics project Hai Phong - Bac Kan

Hai Phong Logistics Association (HPLA) cooperates with Bac Kan to deploy a pilot model of carbon credit creation, promoting the development of green logistics. This is a pioneering initiative, creating a sustainable financial source and aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Vietnam is in the process of building mechanisms and policies for the carbon credit market. HPLA's interest and investment in this field is a vivid example of moving towards green logistics, encouraging many logistics enterprises to be interested and participate in similar activities.

Outstanding logistics events in 2023 demonstrate Vietnam's strong determination to develop a modern and sustainable logistics industry. This is not only a driving force for the domestic economy but also helps Vietnam affirm its position in the global supply chain.
