Specifically, the two patients are TMT (12 years old, temporarily residing in Long Binh ward, Bien Hoa city) and NPT (13 years old, temporarily residing in Thanh Hoa hamlet, Ho Nai 3 commune, Trang Bom district). Of which, NPT was hospitalized in a state of agitation, rapid breathing, and drowsiness.
According to the patient's family, at around 12 noon the same day, T. went swimming with a friend and unfortunately drowned. After about 6-7 minutes, he was pulled to shore by local people in an unconscious state. Local people performed first aid (external cardiac compression) and took him to Thong Nhat General Hospital.
Here, the patient was still in a coma, lethargic, agitated and stiff. Doctors intubated, put him on a ventilator and transferred him to Dong Nai Children's Hospital.
At the Emergency Department, Dong Nai Children's Hospital, the patient continued to receive active treatment with medication, mechanical ventilation, and was then transferred to the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department.
Dr. Pham Thi Kieu Trang, in charge of the department, said that doctors are still trying to save patient T. Initial information shows that the patient suffered from drowning, severe lung damage and the extent of brain damage is not yet known. Doctors have used vasopressors to increase blood pressure, high-speed ventilation and antibiotics for the patient.
"Although the patient's vital signs have stabilized, his condition is still very serious. We are continuing to actively treat him and closely monitor him," Dr. Trang shared.
Baby TMT also suffered lung damage and is currently receiving CPAP support and continuing treatment at Dong Nai Children's Hospital.
