On September 26, the Department of Preventive Medicine ( Ministry of Health ) sent a document to the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City; Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health; Dong Nai Department of Health and Binh Duong Department of Health regarding strengthening prevention of monkeypox .

According to the Department of Preventive Medicine , according to information from the infectious disease surveillance system, on September 23, Ho Chi Minh City recorded a case of a 25-year-old male, residing in Xuan Truong commune, Xuan Loc, Dong Nai, currently residing temporarily in Vo Vap, Ho Chi Minh City, positive for monkeypox.

Monkeypox patients have acute rash symptoms.

In the past week, the patient had contact with his girlfriend who is temporarily residing in Tan Uyen City, Binh Duong Province. His girlfriend currently has symptoms of monkeypox (pustular rash).

Both patients had no record of travel abroad or contact with foreigners within 21 days of testing positive for monkeypox.

To promptly monitor and detect cases early, control the epidemic in time to prevent monkeypox outbreaks, and minimize the number of cases and deaths, the Ministry of Health requests the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Health of Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces to strengthen epidemic prevention and control.

The Department of Preventive Medicine noted that it is necessary to proactively coordinate and urgently investigate all cases of contact with the above-mentioned monkeypox positive case to determine the source of infection in order to promptly manage and handle the outbreak (if any) to prevent the epidemic from spreading widely in the community.

Organize treatment of positive cases, avoid deaths, prevent cross-infection and infection of medical staff during care and treatment; carry out communication work in many forms to inform people about the epidemic situation and prevention measures to avoid panic and anxiety among people.

Organize training for health workers at all levels on monitoring, treatment and prevention of monkeypox infection.

The Department of Preventive Medicine also requested the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City to continue to support and promptly guide localities and units in the area on monitoring, sampling, diagnosis and infection prevention, and handling of monkeypox outbreaks.

Thus, in nearly a year, Vietnam has recorded 4 cases of monkeypox. The two previous patients (discovered in October 2022) were discharged from the hospital after 3 weeks of treatment and monitoring.

Those who have been in close contact with the patient's residence in Ho Chi Minh City are currently in stable health and have not shown any unusual symptoms. At the same time, they have been instructed to self-monitor their health at home for 21 days.
