They have identified strawberries as a real "miracle drug" in defeating bad cholesterol (LDL), one of the factors contributing to dyslipidemia, also known as "fatty blood", "fatty blood".
According to the article published in the journal Nutrients, volunteers participated in a three-phase trial, each phase lasting four weeks, with a one-week "rest" between phases.
During each 4-week trial, they were supplemented with either 13g or 32g of strawberry powder per day, with their health reassessed every 4 weeks, before a "rest".
The results showed that the weeks of eating strawberry powder had a miraculous effect: Fasting insulin levels decreased significantly, and bad cholesterol also decreased sharply, most clearly observed in the early stages of the study.
The reason for the miraculous change in bad cholesterol levels is believed to be due to the fiber in fruit combined with polyphenol antioxidant compounds that prevent the body from "absorbing" fat from food.
This also helps prevent cardiovascular disease if the strawberry diet is maintained, because prolonged, uncontrolled high bad cholesterol is one of the prominent risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
The researchers said they will continue to delve deeper into the insulin-controlling abilities of strawberries, which were discovered somewhat by accident during the study, as this could mean they could also help control diabetes.
