Approval of public science and technology organizations to develop into international standard centers

(NLDO) - This is a practical achievement after a period of time, Ho Chi Minh City has made efforts to pilot specific mechanisms and policies on attracting and retaining talented people.

On the afternoon of June 17, the Department of Science and Technology (KH-CN) of Ho Chi Minh City held a conference "Announcing the approval of organizations participating in the Project on Building a promotion mechanism to form and develop international standard research centers and providing guidance and sharing experiences when participating in the project".

Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in the first phase of implementing the project, the Department received 10 applications from 8 public science and technology organizations. After careful consideration and evaluation, the Department officially announced the Center for Research on Nanostructured and Molecular Materials (INOMAR, under the Ho Chi Minh City National University - the first unit in the country, approved as eligible to participate in the project.

"INOMAR will be a pioneer model, a "leading bird", proving that building international standard research centers within public organizations is completely feasible and necessary. Ho Chi Minh City aims to have at least 5 science and technology organizations meeting regional and world standards by 2045," Mr. Thang shared.

Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, emphasized that the approval and announcement of the first batch of qualified public science and technology organizations to participate in the above project is a practical achievement after a period of efforts to pilot specific mechanisms and policies on attracting and retaining talented people.

Ms. Thuy suggested that units effectively implement financial mechanisms, assessment criteria and specific pilot mechanisms to enhance the autonomy, creativity and commercialization of products of science and technology organizations. Prioritize support for centers associated with key economic sectors and key issues of the city such as: smart healthcare development, sustainable urban management, environmental treatment, high-tech agriculture in urban areas, and green logistics...

Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee spoke at the event.

"I hope that the unit announced today will truly become a leading bird in the city's innovative research network in key areas, and at the same time be a place to gather breakthrough ideas, works with international marks, and scientific products with high practical value," said Ms. Thuy.

INOMAR will receive a grant of VND85 billion from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to realize the goal of building an international standard research and innovation center in the field of advanced foam materials applied in health protection and care, energy storage and conversion, and memory components.
