When at home, some people like to close the door for quiet, others like to open the door for fresh air. So is it better to open or close the door?

Nowadays, many families, especially urban residents, often choose to close the windows in their homes because the noise outside is relatively loud, affecting their daily activities and sleep. Not to mention that in summer and winter, they also close the windows to turn on the air conditioner.

However, from a health perspective, frequently closing windows will prevent air circulation in the house, which is harmful to human health, especially at night.

According to research, when people go to sleep, they inhale 300ml of O2 and exhale 250ml of CO2 every minute. After sleeping for 3 hours, the CO2 in the room can increase several times.

In addition, in a closed space, without ventilation, lacking oxygen, the number of bacteria, dust and other toxic substances in the room will increase exponentially. When people breathe, these pollutants will be inhaled into the body, causing health problems such as nausea, headaches, dizziness after waking up.

Therefore, opening the window properly every day is the simplest health care regimen. According to experts from the health website Life Times, there are 5 special times when you should open the window.

Before and after going to bed

Families can open the windows for 15 minutes every night before going to bed to increase the oxygen content in the air, which is beneficial for sleep. When sleeping, the bedroom doors and windows should not be closed tightly but can be left with a small gap to let fresh air into the room. However, if the window is facing the head of the bed, it is best to use curtains to avoid direct wind blowing, which is harmful to health.

In addition, if you have closed the door during sleep, you need to open the door immediately when you wake up. After breathing all night, a lot of carbon dioxide accumulates in the room and the amount of oxygen becomes thinner. At the same time, when making the bed, dust mites, skin flakes, etc. will float in the air..., opening the window for ventilation becomes extremely important.

When the blanket is wet

Warm, moist blankets are ticks' favorite food. Especially ones covered in human sweat. Just the moisture, combined with the perfect temperature and humidity, is the perfect environment for ticks to survive.

In addition to drying your blanket in the sun, opening the windows for ventilation is also a good way to keep your blanket dry.

Therefore, after waking up, families should not rush to fold the blanket, but spread it out flat and then open the ventilation window to remove the moisture in the blanket. Only when the air evaporates can the growth of mites and mold be avoided.

While cooking

Because a large amount of smoke is generated during cooking such as frying, frying, and the volatile components at high temperatures produce harmful substances, they strongly irritate the mucous membranes of the nose, eyes and throat, and can even easily cause respiratory diseases.

Therefore, when cooking, not only should you turn on the hood, but you should also open the windows for ventilation. After cooking, families should also continue to open the windows for at least 10 minutes to avoid oil smoke accumulating in the house for a long time.

After bathing

After bathing, the bathroom with high humidity must be ventilated immediately to keep it dry, avoiding the formation of large amounts of mold that threatens health. If the bathroom does not have a window, open the bathroom door after bathing to maintain air circulation.

During general cleaning

When cleaning a room, even with a vacuum cleaner, a large amount of bacteria, dust mites and dander will still fly into the air. This is when indoor pollutants are most concentrated.

Therefore, experts advise people to wear masks at this time and open windows to allow air circulation to avoid inhaling fine particles. During general cleaning, furniture should be wiped with a wet cloth first to reduce airborne particles.

While it is important to open windows, experts also remind families to wait until the sun comes up to open them. If you live near major traffic routes, you should also avoid opening windows during rush hour. Generally, you only need to open windows for 30 minutes to let the air circulate.

Also, avoid opening windows early in the morning on cloudy days to avoid air pollutants affecting indoor air quality.

After 2 p.m., when the concentration of air pollutants decreases, this is a relatively good time to ventilate.

If the concentration of pollutants such as PM2.5 is relatively high, the window opening time can be shortened to 10 to 15 minutes.
