According to a VNA reporter in Havana, in the solemn atmosphere of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), a reporter from Canal Caribe - Cuba's national television channel - was present in Ho Chi Minh City to record special moments in the bilateral relationship.
The April 28 news bulletin noted: “Halfway around the world, Cubans appearing on the streets of Ho Chi Minh City always receive warm hugs and smiles from local people.”
“This sentiment dates back to the most difficult days, when Cuba was a steadfast ally of Vietnam,” stressed reporter Wilmer Rodríguez Fernández.
The news re-enacted the historic visit of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, the first and only head of state to visit the newly liberated area in Quang Tri in 1973 - the most fierce time of the war.
The news highlighted the special solidarity and showed valuable documentary footage of Cuban doctors working on the southern battlefield, along with the story of the 261st Giron Battalion - a Cuban volunteer unit that fought for 10 years on the Vietnamese battlefield under the Cuban flag presented by Fidel himself.
In a news report lasting more than 4 minutes, a Vietnamese citizen shared with a Cuban television channel: "We are brothers, friends who always stand side by side."
A Vietnamese veteran emotionally expressed: “Fidel is a great leader. The Vietnamese people always respect and love Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.”
At the end of the news, Canal Caribe affirmed: "The April 30 event, after half a century, is still a powerful testament to the revolutionary heroism of the Vietnamese people, and at the same time a shining symbol of international solidarity"./.
