AFP news agency reported that Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced a plan to train 5,000 police officers for Gaza during talks with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa in August this year.
In fact, the first group of more than 500 officers has been training in Cairo since March this year and since September, the two-month courses have resumed to welcome hundreds more trainees.

All members of the force will come from the Gaza Strip and be paid by the Palestinian Authority (PA), based in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian sources said.
A senior Palestinian Authority security official confirmed that President Mahmoud Abbas had instructed Interior Minister Ziad Hab al-Reeh to coordinate with Egypt on the training operation.
In Egyptian-sponsored talks late last year, Palestinian movements - including the two main movements, Hamas and Abbas's Fatah - agreed to create a force of about 10,000 police officers.
Egypt will train half of them while the remaining 5,000 will come from the police force in Gaza, which has been under Hamas control since the resistance movement took power there in 2007.
Under the deal, the new security force will be overseen by a committee of technocrats approved by Palestinian movements.
