National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that this election is scheduled for March 15, 2026, earlier than the previous one, while also shortening the time in the steps of the election process.

On the morning of November 15, the National Election Council held a national conference to disseminate the Politburo 's Directive and deploy the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

The conference was organized in a combination of in-person and online formats to provincial and commune-level bridges in 34 provinces and cities across the country.

This election has many new points.

In his opening speech, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term is a major political event for the country, taking place at a time of special significance.

Our entire Party, people and army are striving to compete to achieve results in welcoming the 14th National Party Congress; the revolution of streamlining the organization of the political system, operating the 2-level local government model, rearranging administrative boundaries... opens up new development space and new driving force.

Up to now, the agencies according to their functions and tasks and the localities have issued documents to lead, direct, guide and organize the implementation of the election work in accordance with the regulations and schedule.

According to the National Assembly Chairman, compared to previous terms, this election has many important new points such as: shortening the term of the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term, setting the election date on March 15, 2026, about 2 months earlier than previous elections.

Along with that, the time in the steps of the election process is shortened: the time from the end of submitting candidacy documents to election day is reduced from 70 days to 42 days; the time frames for consultation, announcement of candidate lists, and handling of complaints and denunciations are also adjusted accordingly, ensuring consistency and suitability to reality.

In addition, adjust the authority to determine voting areas and organize elections according to the two-tier government model. Diversify election campaign methods, in addition to direct voter contact, allowing online organization or combining direct and online activities with conditions ensuring technical assurance, information security and network security.

In particular, there is a mechanism that allows the National Election Council to proactively adjust the time and guide election organizations when practical situations arise, ensuring the progress and effectiveness of election organization.

Widespread democratic activities among all classes of people

The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that each election has new contexts, advantages and difficulties, and new situations may arise, but with high political determination and close leadership and direction from the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, and Party committees at all levels, election preparation work is the most important factor to ensure the election's success.

Along with that is the determination, closeness, proactiveness, creativity, flexibility, closeness to the practical situation and geographical conditions of each locality; the division of work, close and effective coordination between relevant agencies and organizations in the entire election work, creating transparency, clarity, unity and continuity from the Central to the grassroots.

This election will be a broad democratic activity among all classes of people, selecting and electing excellent representatives to represent the people of the whole country in the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels.
