According to Dr. Tu Ngu, General Secretary of the Vietnam Nutrition Association, in reality many people use corn for breakfast, which is completely acceptable, but it should not become a habit day after day.
Corn used to be a popular food in Vietnam, second only to rice. When the economy was difficult, corn was used quite a lot in family meals with many ways of processing such as boiled corn, popped corn, corn sticky rice or ground into flour to make cakes or in some places there was also a dish called men men made from corn.
Corn is still classified as a food grain, but as the economy develops, corn is no longer used to replace rice in daily meals as before. Instead, many people use corn as a food.
Specifically, in stews or hot pots, many families still add corn to make the broth sweeter and more nutritious. Or corn can be used to stir-fry meat or make soup.
Is it good to eat corn in the morning is a question that many people are interested in. (Illustration photo)
According to data from the Vietnamese food composition table, 100 grams of edible corn contains 196 kcal; 4.1 grams of protein; 2.3 grams of lipid; 39.6 grams of glucid; 1.7 grams of sugar and many other vitamins and minerals.
Compared to 100 grams of machine-milled rice, corn has fewer calories (rice has 344Kcal/100 grams), and the amount of carbohydrates in corn is also less than that of commonly used rice. However, the fat and sugar content in corn is higher.
Because the amount of calories consumed in corn is less than that of rice, people often eat corn in the morning to lose weight. However, you need to note that people who eat boiled corn often do not combine it with other foods such as vegetables, meat, fish, eggs in breakfast. On the contrary, when eating rice cooked from white rice, you will have to eat it with other food groups.
If we consider both science and nutrition practice, eating white rice for breakfast with food is better than eating just corn for breakfast. However, because of our preferences, we can completely change our meals, occasionally eating corn for breakfast is still good, because corn still has a certain amount of sugar, fat, and protein, although not much.
Experts note that people should not default to eating only boiled corn in the morning. We can make many other dishes from corn that are also very reasonable and nutritious, such as cooking corn soup, chicken, and vegetables that are good for digestion and have all the necessary nutrients.
You can also cook minced meat, young corn, and vegetable soup or young ribs-corn and vegetable soup for breakfast. That way, we don't need to eat rice but still have carbohydrates, especially with many other essential nutrients.
